10 Minutes A Day Problem Solving, Ages 9-11 (Key Stage 2): Supports the National Curriculum, Helps Develop Strong Maths Skills

Excellent for developing problem-solving skills
Excellent for honing problem-solving skills of a 9-10-year-old (year 5). The level of difficulty is just right, unlike with some other problem-solving books, where the first couple of questions in a test are usually straightforward calculations. Not with this book though. Each question is worthwhile. Strongly recommended. Also, I would not worry too much about the 10-minute time limit unless the pupil feels comfortable with that specific timeframe. What really matters is for them to be able to crack the problems, even if it takes them more than 10 minutes, and if they can't solve some of those, they should be given the opportunity to give it a try, not least because thinking about how to solve a problem and learning how to go about it is actually more valuable at this level than finding the accurate solution.

Nice short lesson for home schooling
My son is 10 and we are using this as part of his homeschooling. To be honest this book isn’t particularly challenging for him but it’s nice for when work is getting him down, I can give him this for 10 minutes rather than the full on maths lesson. I’m not keen on how the answers aren’t in a pull out section, they are fixed into the back of the book and so you have to flick back and forward to mark it. Overall we have found it quite useful though

Awesome!
Despite having read the several wonderful reviews about this book, I was initially sceptical. Boy oh boy!! Wasn't I pleasantly surprised by the rich content and quality of questions contained therein!! My 11 year old and I having been having at least 30 minute sessions daily. His confidence in Maths has skyrocketed. I'm so glad I purchased this book despite having been sceptical at the beginning. It's a very good book. I'm very certain that my son will be scoring above 90% in the next Maths test.

Real World Maths
I bought this book for my son who actually requested some maths workbooks to do at home! I was only too happy to oblige. He is a pretty smart boy and quite into his maths, but I have to admit he did find these challenging. Challenging in a good way I think, there is no dumbing down here.I tell him that this is real world maths, working out how to resolve complex problems to do with prices and areas and fractions. He says it is quite different from the maths he currently does at school - he gets more the solving sums type thing in class. With these problems he has to first work out how to solve the problem, and then solve it, it is quite a different concept to grasp, I think that it will stand him in good stead.

Good preparation for SATs
Used to prepare my daughter for SATS. Really good to practise taking test. This isn't a book to teach you maths - it's to help you practice applying what you know in fun little tests.

Difficulty level too high, and much higher than the other titles in this range
Another lovely book from the Carol Vorderman range, but this is the sort of book which will make your 9 year old feel inept, because it's set at a much higher difficulty level than all of the other books in this range. For a high achiever this may be great, but for your Average Joe who is currently being educated at home due to necessity, or a child who is struggling and is trying to use resources to catch up, this probably isn't much use. However, the quality of the book is lovely, but this definitely isn't my daughter's favourite within Carol Vorderman's range.

Very useful
Children find this area very difficult so lots of examples is good-as a teacher you can supply the know how.
