Q: Do these have real pockets (so your hands fit inside them), or are they annoying girl pockets?

To front top pockets are regular pockets. I can put my hand inside including I use it to stick mask or latex glove or keys inside. The inner part is lined with mesh. The lower pockets have zippers where I can place ID's or money inside. Note: Most of the Capris or Shorts have been fine. For some reason I've had 1 pair Black Capris and 1 Pair Black Shorts with quality issues - the Capris came apart in seam across bottom and the zipper on the Shorts has teeth that don't quite zip smoothly. All my other 8-10 pair in other colors have been fine though. So check seams and zippers before removing tags....I don't think Eddie Bauer will make these again so I stocked up.

Yes, the drawstring is only on the legs. The waist has a button and zipper along with belt loops.

Q: how wide is leg opening

The bottom of the leg openings for my size 2 capris are approximately 7". Hope this helps.

Q: How long are these pants if you have short legs?

My legs are average but closer to short than long. These pants feel and fit like Capris. So just below the knee. Also have ties and ruching
