The Sheriff 5: A post-apocalyptic sci-fi western (Sheriff Duke)

Whether the author realised it himself, or somebody pointed it out to him, it was high time some of the beloved characters from past books put in an appearance. As a result, new life has been breathed into the story-telling; new life from old, I guess.As usual, the Sheriff follows a strict moral code, acting as a light of inspiration for other characters to navigate by. The climax of this instalment brought a lump to my throat, more than once. Winning isn't always winning, when the stakes are so high and the rules are constantly being tested by all parties. Even so, the pace sparks with energy as we are bowled along to a heart wrenching conclusion.Hayden is such a glorious protagonist, a horse riding gunslinger in a cowboy hat - perfect for the setting of a far flung future Earth, ravaged by alien attackers and still fighting towards a painful recovery. With one step forward to one step back, it seems that Hayden will always be gainfully employed in steering North America on the road of recovery. Don't miss this thrilling instalment. I loved every word.Note to M. R. Forbes - write faster!!!

Well I've read everyone up to this date, and I've enjoyed them all, even though there getting a little expensive for this old man, and as I tend to read quite fast, I read #5 inside of a day, I guess that's because I found it difficult to put down, so should this be the first Sheriff book by M. R. Forbes, I would advise you to find the first in the series, read it slowly, I absolutely guarantee you that you will have the very best ride (read) of your life in this particular genre.

Thoroughly enjoyable read as were the previous books in the series, I struggled to put it down. Looking forward to the next adventure.

It was great to read another fast paced book about Sheriff Hayden Duke and his journey. Look forward to the next one!

Fast paced, our favourite sheriff of out ranging against the perils of the universe again. A character that you love and can really get behind. Yes another fantastic book in the forgotten universe.
