Excellent Ride! Comparable to Tubeless Systems!
One this I like about TPU tubes is that they make a perfect back-up for tubeless systems. I ride with tubeless ready Roval CLX wheels. Which are basically a hybrid of a tubeless systems AND a clincher system in one. So if my tubeless setup fails during a ride, I can resort back to the clincher setup with the trusted tubes. BUT these TPU tubes are probably the next best thing next to a tubeless system. They have extremely low rolling resistance. In fact, they are second only to a tubeless setup. They are also extremely light weight. Five TPU tubes are about the same weight as a standard rubber tube. TPU tubes are polyurethane which is stronger than latex and rubber. Obviously not as flexible, but they do stretch slightly. This makes TPU tubes a bit more resistant to punctures than normal rubber or latex tubes. That's good to know, BUT they can still go flat, and aren't as reliable as a sealant filled tube, or a tubeless system with sealant. So be careful! and no... sealants will not work with TPU tubes. I have heard that this is because the sealant will eat away the TPU material...which made no sense at all. Polyurethane is extremely chemical resistant. In fact, it is used as a top coating on most industrial and automotive concrete floors. I believe the REAL reason sealant doesn't work with TPU tubes, is because the sealant is not compatible with the polyurethane. Most sealants are latex based, and work very well with rubber and latex...but NOT urethane. They are not chemically compatible. But your welcome to try it. Aside from that, TPU's are awesome! They are a bit more pricey and take a different patch kit (again...this is because the glue needs to be chemically compatible with polyurethane). They are extremely lightweight, have a very low rolling resistance, are very compact, and have great puncture resistance. I would advise anyone to give them a shot. Especially if you ride with a "tubeless ready" hooked rim. These will NOT work with a "tubeless only" rim. It must be a wheel that can accept either system. Good luck and be safe!! You're going to love these!!
