MARMOTMen's Guides Down Hoody Jacket

Best for the price
This is light weight and keeps warm at about freezing temps. Has hood so can protect against wind. Not sure if waterproof though. Material is thin so seems could tear easily. Not many down jackets to choose from but for price ok. Stay away from the cheaper ones as not any good, to little down and to thin material and does not keep warm.

Very warm jacket for the money, excellent for severe boreal conditions
I used this jacket in an area of Russia that experiences sub-arctic winters for fieldwork, and with proper additional layering (synthetic/wool base layer, light fleece, this jacket, and a hardshell for weather/brush protection), it was a wonderfully warm down jacket in temperatures getting as low as -30 F with strong winds. Like most down jackets, it is delicate, so I advise 1) always wearing under a hardshell if you're in the bush or another area wear tears are likely and 2) carry some tenacious tape patches with you so you can easily repair any holes that do appear. I haven't used jackets from more premium companies like Patagonia or Arc'teryx, but this jacket is definitely an excellent value for the money.

Not warm enough
I returned this jacket, because for a puffy jacket this should keep me much warmer. After being outside for 1.5 hours in the 40s to 50s I was chilled. The jacket is super comfortable, but not going to cut it in the backcountry. It also doesn't pack very small. In contrast the REI Stormhenge, just 0.1 lbs. heavier was cheaper on sale, but same MRP has 850 fill as opposed to 700 of Marmot and is waterproof/breathable and even more comfortable. This is the 3rd Marmot product I have been disappointed with and probably won't be buying from this company any more. I guide outdoor adventures backcountry skiing, winter expeditions, backpacking, rafting, sea kayaking, and climbing and cannot afford to have equipment that doesn't function for me.

Warm coat
Very warm coat. There are a lot of down jackets on the market but this one is made with care. I tried it on a -25C day and had only a shirt beneath. I didn't feel the cold on the body. Only in the face.

Light and comfortable
Good quality jacket for weather up to -10C. Not tailored for extreme cold. Very light and comfortable. Multiple pockets are very useful.
