The Aromatherapy Beauty Guide: Using the Science of Carrier and Essential Oils to Create Natural Personal Care Products

Money well spent!
This is an easy to read and beautifully illustrated guide. While the book does not shy away from chemical terminology such as METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE, it does not drown you with unnecessary pompous descriptions or information. It simply tells you in which products it can be found, what the exposure risks are and what studies have concluded in three sentences all under the most important heading of : CHEMICALS YOU CAN LIVE WITHOUT.The over 30 years of experience in teaching and practicing which the author has, shine through beautifully in the way he book is written and broken down (four parts). The sections are clearly color coded making it a breeze to find exactly what you are looking for. Part 3 is certain to become a favorite of anyone because it presents the essential oils in a complete manner without becoming overwhelming nor boring. Complete descriptions include the botanical name (extremely important) description, cautions, precautions, main chemical components with their benefits/warnings and last but not least: the guidelines for using. But dont worry about the calculator, you wont need it because even when you are told is a X% dilution, it also tells you exactly how many EO drops per milliliter you need.As far as the formulations: I made the first, and I was so excited i shared it with one person...which became twenty within a week wanting to know more about it and offering to pay for their own jar...If you are in business that is great, but my plan was just to pamper myself....

Not Impressed
Very disappointed. Hana Tisserand gave this a good review so I thought it was a no brainers, but she must have been compensated. The index is HORRIBLE. The recipes are basic & uninteresting. The information provided is good for A beginner. Seriously- not impressed.

Just the facts
Excellent information. I've recently started making my own body care products and most of the books about essential oils are pretty anecdotal (lavender is supposed to be calming and that type of thing) but this book has scientific info in it. Tells you what components are in different essential oils and carrier oils like jojoba. Tells you which ones to stay away from if you are pregnant or which ones might cause photo sensitivity to UV light and shouldn't be used without wearing sunscreen. Very easy to find what you need and has great info. If you are interested in making lotions, soaps, face serums or that type of thing I highly recommend this book, but it is also a great book for people who are just interested in finding out more about some of the ingredients your current products might have and why you may or may not want to use them.

Comprehensive
EXACTLY what I was looking for. A very well written and organized book. She covers basic skin anatomy, types and common conditions. Then, an in depth review of carrier oils, essential oils followed by treatment recipes. This is a quality, well bound book that I am certain to reference for years to come.

Wonderful book with lots of helpful info.
After reading an article by a well known aromatherapist I ordered this and three other books. Oh. My. Goodness. This book is fantastic. It has a wealth of information about essential oils, carrier oils, and suggestions for use when creating personal care items. It is beautifully illustrated and well organized. I only received this today, but I've already made substantial headway in exploring it. I can already see I will be referring back to this often.

Fantastic and thorough info all in one place!
This is my new favorite essential oils book! It is full of great step by step recipes and it doesn't stop there. It's loaded with information on a ton of other things: essential oils, carriers, butters and when you might want to use them. It even has recipes for different organs such as, kidney, liver, heart, etc. This book will be useful for both beginners and experts alike.

A must have book!
A must have book for any do-it yourself formulators of personal care products. Danielle Sade thoroughly explains the chemistry behind the ingredients (the essential oils and carrier oils) and the instructions are clear and concise. I have made approximately ten different products and each one was beautiful and very luxurious.A perfect gift for any aromatherapist or anyone interested in making lotions and personal care products.

Some good information...
... but some very misleading too - especially on formulating. The advice on choosing essential oils for skincare can be helpful, but the recipes are... not good at all, definitely not safe to use - especially the ones containing water in them. If you are interested in formulating or aromatherapy/essential oils I recommend you obtain different books on the topics. This book tries to combine both subjects and really doesn't succeed in that. It gives a tiny bit of information and without a proper base or understanding of the subjects, someone can be seriously mislead... Don't try to shoot two rabbits with one bullet and look for information elsewhere!

Really Great Book for First Timers
This is a great book for someone who has little knowledge about essential oils and has never formulated anything before. The book tells you what each essential oils is good for and how to combine them into your formulations. It contains a lot of recipes but I do find it limited in the face cleansers department (they mostly touch upon oil based cleansers). I have never used an oil cleanser so it was a weird concept to me. Also, this book gives you a list of suppliers you can buy your supplies from, I ended up ordering from Saffire Blue which was listed in their book. I would avoid this company at all costs as they have a bad reputation, they are based in Canada. Do your research very well when it comes to ordering supplies online.

Skin treatments for all skin types, using essential oils!
This book is very informative! I teach at an Esthetics School and needed something to compliment my lessons on aromatherapy and skin treatments. It’s very scientifically based, which I appreciate. There is a whole chapter on skin anatomy and skin types, why and how different essential oils should and could be used. I love all the recipes the author has included all the while caring about what chemicals are in essential oils and utilizing them safely on the skin. If you want a good read as well as useful information, this is the book for you!
