Cheap for a reason - 7 year old drive that runs really HOT!
I wanted an 8TB drive for backups, and while the low price of this drive made me rather suspicious, given it's bought through Amazon I had the confidence I could send it back. The first warning sign came with the shipping. Hard disks are reasonably fragile things, and the box came with no extra padding, just a shipping label on the retail box and no foam or anything protecting the drive inside. The retail box was OK but you don't know much the disk has been dropped. The drive enclosure itself is fine, very simple USB3 interface but it works. I've not done any throughput tests yet but I'm not hugely bothered about the speed.Because of the price, I wanted to look inside to see what make and model the disk was. I was pleased to see it was a Seagate Enterprise drive (1VS112-268) at the 8TB capacity bought, but then looking closer at the drive I noticed it has been manufactured Feb 2016! For the time this was a nice and quite expensive drive, but technology has come a long way since then.Suspicious that such an old drive might be 2nd use, I checked the SMART stats to look for spin ups/down and running time. The SMART stats look corrupted to me, only a few spin ups/down but a ridiculously huge running hours stat, equating to millions of years. So can't trust that. Finally the other thing I've noticed is the drive runs hot, really really HOT. The enclosure has no fan so my concern would be this drive will cook itself very quickly if left on all the time and be unreliable. Can I recommend this? I'm not sure I can - for my use case of data backup where the drive will only occasionally turn on, it's probably fine, but I'd never recommend this drive for someone who wants it use it a lot.

8TB hard drive external
It's OK, it's noisy and vibrates a lot. It's very power Hungary too. If I was to buy again I wouldn't.

Should be better packaged for shipping
The drive arrived broken in the box. The drive was sent in the manufacturer packaging. The item should be in an additional amazon box with bubble wrap or brown paper to help protect it. One of the front panel screw heads had sheared off, probably from an impact. The drive did not connect to my computer. The build quality is not good either, it is just an old seagate 3.5 inch hard drive dated 2016 inside an aluminum casing with no heat sink or fan to help cool it.
