Sturdy, nicely detailed and reasonably priced.
My son is 5 and completely obsessed with excavators of all shapes and sizes. He’s had several plastic models, none of which are able to stand up to a boy’s play. However, this one just may be the exception. This all-metal excavator seems to be very sturdy and looks exactly like a real one (it should... it’s a 1:40 model). The “hydraulics” are somewhat stiff and take two hands to extend and compress, but they may loosen up after some play time. The tracks are rubber and they roll very smoothly.Overall, we are impressed with the model and my son loves it more than breathing... it was his favorite Christmas gift by far. The price was also very reasonable for a well-made toy. It remains to be seen whether it will stand the test of the time and a little boy’s imagination, but so far, so good!

Good customer service
Update: The company contacted me and sent me a free replacement excavator. I have increased my rating from one star two four stars. The customer service is wonderful; they contacted me right away and have dealt kindly with me step-by-step in the returning and replacement process. The new excavator has not snapped in the plastic part like the first one did. Still not a five star as the rubber tracks slip easily on carpet and the motions of the excavator are very tight even for me, even after greasing them.Original post:Bought this for my five year old's birthday. First time he played with it, it snapped. Description says diecast heavy metal, but there are many parts that are plastic as well. Does not hold up well to even light play.

Sturdy and great!!!
The other reviews made us skeptical about buying this because they said it broke easily... here we are almost a month later and our 2 year old who plays almost daily in the dirt with it has yet to destroy it. I should mention that this is his THIRD excavator!!! The other two were plastic and really not well made. They fell apart QUICKLY! This one is super sturdy and metal. SO MUCH BETTER than the other two. He loves it!

Almost on the right track
So my son is obsessed with excavators but did not have a toy one. I decided to look and get one that was comparable to some of his other toys. I decided on this one because it looked great and was around the right size. So here it is, it is heavy, made of metal, fully usable and a great replica. The only bad thing is the darn tracks. I’m telling you this thing was ALMOST perfect. But the tracks just come off. They’re made of a lite rubber that I know will break. For $40 you’d think they would have non removable tracks. I personally suggest finding one with better tracks. It seems sturdy other than that. However, the tracks falling off of an excavator is analogous to a person running barefoot on a gravel road, it looks stupid and nonsensical. So….I strongly suggest they make the tracks more durable and perhaps not so easily removable. If this doesn’t bother you then it is a great toy. Now excuse me, my son is asking me to put the track back on.

It is sturdy and tough
My grandson has had two Bruder excavators and they were very realistic, but sadly not very tough. He likes to take them to the park to dig and scoop and they have all self destructed. Hopefully a diecast metal bucket and arm will allow him to dig a bit more before it has to be replaced. I will post later if it lives or dies, but so far much tougher design and the bucket is metal.

Super pleased with this excavator!!
Grandson is fascinated with excavators, has some cute little plastic ones that he plays with all of the time, but THIS one is going to be his favorite! Great size for small hands, but big enough to be a totally enjoyable and sturdy excavator to dig in snow, dirt and mud with! Have to let a little guy get down in the dirt and have a blast! He is going on 3 years old.

Broke Quickly
Many things broken in not even a month and a half. My son is almost 3 and he plays nicely with his toys. And we kept this one in the garage for an “outdoor” toy so it didn’t get played with every day. VERY DISAPPOINTED. First the hydraulic cylinder pieces broke on the arm. Then the bucket. Then the entire piece (plastic) for one of the tracks broke off. We’re attempting to glue it back together for him but I’m sure it won’t hold.I was expecting this toy to be more durable for most of it being made of metal and for being more expensive but that is sadly not the case.If you want your child to actually play with this toy, buy something else. It won’t hold up.
