It's Decent, But Barely
Some other people mentioned that some lines of questions could really be combined with the previous. Feels like a space waster to have like "In what way?" Have it's own line after the main question is asked. Pages 11-29 I feel are solid enough for the core basics of any character. This includes the sections: background, mind, and body.Page 30 onwards is kinda??? Pbttttt. Soul questions can be a little outdated like the first one mentioning Harry Potter which house do you get sorted into. Fandom questions should have been left out because it's not universal. Not all questions are relevant for your character. There are decent enough questions that I feel like would have fun to think about with your OCs. But these questions are only the first half of the book. The second half is. Ehhhhh. There is a section for young children characters which is nice for those with younger characters or fleshing out a backstory. My biggest grievances are the sections for LGBT and nonhuman characters. Part one is generic enough and decent, asking about your character's gender/sexuality, when they realized, their worldview, etc. Part two is scenarios where it gets weird. Because like, I kid you not, every scenario is about homophobia and hate crimes. Not necessarily a 'BAD' thing because like if your story calls for it I guess. But like, nearly every scenario question is about homophobia and reacting to it. If it was evenly split I wouldn't care as much, but it is just so negative???? Why??? Questions involve stuff like dealing with homophobic parents, conversion camp, and having slurs thrown at you. It's like 10 pages of mostly negative scenarios. Even the questions about marriage are about your character learning that they're gay and trying to figure out how to divorce their partner. Then there's questions for nonhuman characters which feels very. Huh. It's supposed to be relevant for like monsters/aliens/animals, but falls flat on its face. You can't really combine all three of those like that. Questions includes words like tribes synonymous to primitive and alpha/beta/omega. One question mentions your tribe having a treaty with humans that is considered a second 'Thanksgiving' which is like :/ I feel like these two sections should have been thought out better. Other questions involve your character being a 'pet' to humans. Which is why I really think animals and monsters/aliens should have been separated. The author tried being diverse, but really missed the mark. Borderline misery porn at times. This book was published in 2014, and it certainly is an item from that time.I only paid like $7 for this book WITH a gift card, thankfully. My version was also used and not directly from the author. You might as well try a different book in my opinion.

Lots of basic character building questions and a lot of ones that you wouldn't think of. It would be a good way to spark a new scene if stuck as well as building characters.
