Not again!
A few days before writing this review, I watched and then reviewed a film where I was critical of some of the accents that some of the characters had, especially where the language spoken was not the actor’s first language (the English of the character was not the first language of the actor). So it was with disappointment that I listened to Michael Caine attempting to deliver his character’s American English accent, (not again I thought). In some scenes the “American” was there more than in other scenes, and even drifted in an out within a few sentences of dialogue – it was very noticeable, and most noticeable when Caine’s character was in scenes with actors from the USA who could speak American English convincingly (not surprisingly).I told myself that I could enjoy the film if I imagined that Caine’s character was an Englishman who had spent much of his life in America and that his accent had acquired a certain amount of North American twang, but when the “twang” drifted in and out within sentences even that thought failed to convince me. It’s a shame, because I thought that this was (otherwise) a superb, multi-layered film.I was attracted to the film because of the participation of actors Michael Cain and Clémence Poésy. I hadn’t read a synopsis and nor had I seen a trailer. All that I could assume was that this film was a romantic story, but it is much more than that. It’s not a seen-it-all-before kind of a film and the narrative plays out the story subtly in a way that could leave one with things to think about (other than dodgy accents). “Mr Morgan’s Last Love” has been described by some as a comedy, well subjective as comedy can be, I would say that that is a bit of a misnomer to state the film as such. It is a sincere look at love though and what might have been a clichéd film is (Caine’s accent aside) actually a fantastic filmFour-and-a-half stars.

What a lovely movie
What you'd expect from Sir Michael Caine, and the rest of the cast. As I'm also getting older,I can appreciate and relate to the storyIt definitely Is thought provoking,, a lovely place to live, you actually see Sir Michael drive which is strange as he hates motor car's, but that aside it's one to watch and I definitely recommend

Charming film
Michael Cane eases through this film with the consummate skill we are used too but just watching but Clémence Poésy made this old man very happy just watching her every move. Beauty and charm personified.

Late life loss countered by a youthful empathetic relationship
Strong performances by both leads and great, believable chemistry, Michael Caine remains iconic in his portrayal and Clémence Poésy was sensational. Storyline although familiar, moved along at a good pace although when daughter/son arrive it becomes a little more laboured.Biggest gripe for me would be the accents of the two leads, MC trying and failing with American accent, Clémence has in general much better English. This led me to look further into the story line and note that main character had been changed from a French national. For me the film would benefit keeping this aspect and not try to get a Hollywood main actors to deliver the character roles.

Simply wonderful movie
American widower living in Paris (Michael Caine), is grieving badly for his late wife when he meets a beautiful young woman (Clémence Poésy) through pure happenstance. The clichéd storyline one tends to expect is for old man to fall for young girl, however, this is a far richer, much more complex story than is immediately obvious. I found this cinematic tale to be thoughtfully told with superb performances from lead actors Caine and Poésy. Why Clémence is not huge star is beyond me. She is the epitome of loveliness and lights up every scene she appears in with her convincing and understated acting brilliance. I found this to be profoundly moving film and despite some darker content, present by necessity of the story, I also found it powerfully life-affirming and uplifting. My one small criticism is that I found Michael's American accent to be below par but one gets used to it as the movie progresses. Overall, it’s a great piece of cinema and for once, the makers got away with a longer running time (almost 2 hours), allowing the viewer to be drawn in more slowly and deeply. I give this film my strongest recommendation and will undoubtedly watch it again.

aucun sous-titre
Attention, contrairement à la description du DVD, le film n'est PAS sous-titré en anglais. Heureusement, l'histoire se déroule à Paris et l'anglais parlé par les acteurs français est très compréhensible.
