Caran d'Ache 0890-017 Ballpoint Pen, Oil-based, Ecridor Flowers

You can feel and see the quality in this pen -no question about that. The 4 stars is because the click is disappointing. The writing experience is sublime- no doubt but the click of the ballpoint isn’t-it’s kind of weak idk. It’s like they say- even a bad click is still good- it’s a click after all but I just can’t give it 5 stars. It’s the kind of pen you can take home to your mother- beautiful, classy but unsatisfying all the same- and every time you click it you find yourself thinking about the cheaper, not as classy pen you could click anywhere, anytime... you know the one....

Caran d'Ache use a technique called guilloche to engrave their Ecridor line of pens. Mostly, I understand, that this is done with a diamond, but in this case, the 'Flowers' version they have used laser engraving and a milling technique to create the very pretty patterns on the body of this pen. Ecridor pens have a slight tactile feeling while using them, due to the engraved bodies, always covering all six sides of their hexagonal bodies. The Flowers body is much smoother, but you can just feel the pattern. The most enchanting and fairly unusual thing about the Ecridor range is the way the body catches the light, depending on where that light is coming from. This one is shiny, palladium coated silver on a brass body, with 'white flowers and leaves' in an irregular pattern. The milled 'pistils' like teardrops, in the centre of some of the blooms, appear as sparkles, as the pen moves.These pens are really lovely to hold, due to the rounded hexagonal, slim bodies and even though I have large hands, find it easy to write with. The push button action is very smooth and the clip is sturdy and grippy. The quality is fabulous and I would expect, will last a very long time. Oh and it is Swiss made.Like all quality Caran d'Ache pens, you have to see and hold them to appreciate the beauty and workmanship of them and their design. Their pencils are awesome too.
