Wonderful!
Informative book covering history of iconic aircraft. Buy the Eduard 1/48 model too as I have done.

Some lovely bits in there about the ill-fated Super Crusader though
My fault - I was hoping for a dash of colour with some combat reports and action. It's very well done, but (yes, as the title says) this is purely about the development of the F-8. Some lovely bits in there about the ill-fated Super Crusader though.

Interesante libro sobre un bello avión
Los libros de la editorial Specialty Press y en especial los monográficos, cómo éste, son piedra de toque del avión que trate.

a very nice read
If you are interested in the technical side of F-8 crusader this book is worth every penny. There are some typos but overall quality is decent.

Why is it that the best fighter we had in its time was not in the public eye?
This was the Navy's "Big Stick" in the earlier days of the Viet Nam conflict, what's to like? First production fighter to exceed 1000mph in level flight [1200+] four [count 'em] 20 mm cannons, 6-8 missiles, outstanding flight profile, ....a Bad Ass customer to deal with!! When the "Gators" [Navy nick name, short for alligator] were flying the Migs were in hiding!! The F-8 was also known as the Last of the Gun Fighters...its replacement, the F-4 Phantom [n-n Rhino] only had missiles, half of them failed to hit,,,,,and NO GUNS!! An under body center- line gun pod was later developed for the Rhino. What is not to like about the F-8 was its poor rear visibility for the pilot, but its great "scat" speed allowed it to outdistance any chaser! Also, since the pilot sat basically at the nose, carrier landings had added difficulties,as if they weren't difficult enough! Shipboard handlers and pilots had complaints about the free-turning nose wheel which sometimes seemed to have a mind of its own!! Much of the public did not know about this Navy warrior since they were on carriers at sea or in-country,Viet Nam, until no less a personage than Marine Fighter pilot John Glenn blasted across the USA from Cal to Nas New York ,Floyd Bennet Field, Brooklyn in a record setting run at almost 1000 mph average in a recon photo version of the Crusader[no guns, cameras only] now the public knew!! This book is worthy, get it!!
