No fuss and convenient!
I've been slowly, slowly trying to get accustomed to watercolor but the medium still frustrates me. What is essentially pan gouache is so much more straightforward and easy to use! I stuck magnets onto the back of these pans and put them into one in the large rectangular empty watercolor tins that you can find easily on Amazon. They fit pretty well in two rows, no space in between. The little tube of white gouache also fits in the remaining blank space on the end, as long as you've used it a little. I just squirted a dollop out onto the tray of the palette and let it dry. This has been a pleasure to work with and to travel with. It's also helped me to understand and appreciate the luminosity of watercolor more, too. I just think I am not naturally smart enough for watercolor and need to practice more. For less thoughtful painting, this set of paints is easy to use and learn!

Makes for a great gift!
Got 2 tins for 2 nieces as gifts, they are beyond thrilled. Based on experience Gouache probably is a better idea than watercolor to get someone started. It’s a great choice especially for art journaling. And Caran d’ache is worth the extra $

Fun, easy, hassle-free gouache!
I absolutely love this set! I bought this set over the other gouache set sold by Caran d'Ache (12 color gouache studio in the red tin), because this one was about $10 cheaper and from all the information I could gather, they are nearly identical, even though this one is marketed as a tempura paint.Although watercolor is my favorite medium I sometimes like to dabble around with gouache. I previously used the miya himi jelly gouache set that is very popular, but that one is so heavy and bulky... not to mention messy. The jelly gouache also has a smell that I don't really love. Because of these reasons I always reached for my dried pan watercolors, their ease of use always appealing to me over the thought of having to clean up a big mess after using gouache. This set was the solution to all the qualms I had with the gouache I was using previously. Because they're in dried cake form, they're so much easier to work with without making a mess. The colors are great, they mix well together, and they are surprisingly opaque (protip: adding white makes them even more opaque!). Also, they're not smelly at all!The tin it comes in is so convenient. I take it with me when I go on weekend trips. While it's not tiny, it easily fits into a backpack or duffel bag and is worth the extra weight (in my opinion). As for the color selection, it's great. There are two of each primary color, a couple of secondaries (THREE greens! This might be a lot of greens for some people, but for those of us who like to paint nature, it's pretty great), and some neutral and earth tones. Any other color I need, I find that I can easily mix it with the colors included in the set.Overall I woyld highly recommend this set to anyone, from kids to adults, and from beginners to more experienced artists. This set is so much fun, I don't think anyone would regret buying it.

Quality and Transportability
I wanted gouache to travel with but tube gouache takes up alot of space and I didn't want to deal with wet paints. A Caran d'Ache representative told James Gurney the only difference between this Fancolor and their usual gouache pans is the binder that's used. It's more kid-friendly. These are not paints meant only for children though! The biggest downside to these paints is the case. It's HUGE. There was no way I was transporting it inside my tiny pochade box. Amazon sells empty "watercolor tins" that are just a generic empty flat tin, not the traditional tin made to hold watercolor pans. I put magnets on the back of the pans and they all fit perfectly! This smaller tin fits perfectly in my pochade box.

LOVELY, VERY RICH COLORS; COMPANY REPUTATION PRECEDES
In the inside insert, the company states it's Gouache, but I just notice here in the site it states tempera. It is worth buying, the colors are truly rich and vibrant and creamy when laid down. Once dry you can see they're good opaque. This is the only company that I know that has pan gouache along with tubes, I think other little companies can try to duplicate this pans with cheap products, but Caran d'Ache can't be duplicated, they are so original and quality of their paints definitely shows. The tin is large and sturdy and loved the brush and white gouache tube that came along with it.

This is an excellent product.
Rewets easy and creamy. I also picked up the three missing colors, Scarlet, Orange and Violet in tubes. I do not see a difference in rendering results between this and tube gouache but the portability is there. The only thing I really don't fancy about this palette is the giant tin.

excelentes temperas
cremosas, lindos colores, muy buena presentación... me encanta pintar con acuarelas, pero este set de Caran D'ache me devolvió el amor por la tempera, son sencillamente sensacionales!

Wonderful set of gouache!
I lost my first set of gouache and had to replace the palette. I was surprised how difficult it was to find a set of solid cakes of gouache like this one. Once I got them, I was very pleased with the construction of the tin, and the quality of the paints themselves. I've been using it quite a bit and I am very pleased with the integrity of the pigments as well as the shades that come in the tin. I feel it is fairly priced and I am very pleased with the item overall.

I liked the depth , but were a bit to vivid for my style of painting

More like gouache
The box is much bigger than I thought. So it is portable but heavy and big to carry. But each of these pans is removable, so you can move some of the pans of your choice and carry it in a smaller box. This thing is not like usual watercolors nor any gouache I used to. It is very sticky to pick up. Hard to work with water brush because you will feel like your water brush is too try all the time. It never happened to any of my watercolor or gouache. I tried the brush come in with the box. It is a good brush. The colors are vibrant and easy to mix. The mixed color is vibrant too, not muddy. It is hard to lay down a smooth and even layer. It is streaky. And there are lots of bubbles or dust like thing all around. Mixing with the white tube gouache will help to reduce the bubble and add opacity. The bubbles will not be so visible when it’s dry. All in all, it’s fine. But disappointed for the big brand name. It’s a lot of paint though.

I'll keep it short. Hallelujah!
At last I've found the paint I've always needed. When I saw these and read the reviews I was a bit disappointed to read that you can't buy replacement pans. It seemed a bit daft to be honest. However, I found a UK online supplier so, even though a whole set of replacement pans costs a bit more than this whole set, they are available and I can change colours if I so choose. They seem to use so little at a time that I can't imagine having to buy replacements anyway. The pans are bigger than full-pan watercolours and the paint picks up so easily and smoothly that it's a delight to use. I strongly suggest you make an keep a colour sample swatch to keep in the tin because the darker colours are difficult to differentuate from each other and there are no colour names, just Caran D'Ache's own code numbers. If you prefer watercolours but paint using the same style as me (clumsy, careless, messy) then these are just what you need. I have included a painting that I'm doing to try them out. Don't be put off by the patchiness - like I said, I'm careless and clumsy. But at least I no longer make a mess (apart from knocking over my water, dipping the brush in my coffee cup and so on)
