One for fans of old Edo
Phenomenal. A truly great insight into the long past history of Japan's premier pleasure quarter in the era of Shoguns and Samurai. The story follows to the film of the same name (also highly recommended) and shows the story of a strong willed courtesan from her early days as a child sold into slavery as a maid, to her glittering heights as the Yoshiwara's premier courtesan.Adult themes, violence, nudity and graphic sex inside.

So not what I wanted.
Mika Ninagawa's film Sakuran was adapted from this book. As I am learning Japanese I have this book from Japan in the Japanese language. However I really did not want to wait to be able to read the book. I was pleased to see Amazon had it in, however it is not listed in the information what language it is printed in, but the front cover is in english. When it arrived and I opened it to discover that in fact it is in another language all together. Maybe the translators name should have given it away. Very disapointed as Amazon should make this clear, I will just have to try to learn Japanese quicker to be able to read the copy I have.
