While the manufacturer states it can be used in "wet weather", being an electronic device I would not roll the dice as water and electronics don't mix. What would you consider "waterproof" leaving it out on the grill in the rain or dropping it in the creek and retrieving it five minutes later? First choice is a maybe...second one I would not recommend. If this does not help I suggest contacting the manufacturer for a better answer. Be specific in asking what your intentions are in relation to "being waterproof".
