I have had these in my classroom and the kids love it! I thought it would be way too small, but I got 2 and joined them which made it the perfect size. It fits on a shelf, desk, or table and doesn't get knocked over - which was my fear with some of the taller ones. All the kids love getting to observe the daily changes and it is so easy to see from all sides. Definitely a win for my classroom!

So I purchased the sand ant farm and dyed the sand blue with food coloring. I like how this isn't too big or too small. It's easy to build all it is, is just connecting the tubes. I am purchasing ants else where. And I bought a second one today after being pleased with how simple it is to put together. And to connect with other pieces.

This item was damaged upon arrival. Can not send back as the ants were purchased to put in this ant farm and they arrived today as well. I am forced to tap this so we can use it so the ants don't know. This item took a week or more to arrive.

This one is great for first time ant keepers! Don't ever buy the ant farms with gel. They are much easier to foul the whole ant farm with over feeding. If you use this one, you can use the sand as is, or add dirt that's been sifted with a fine mesh to the mix so you have a 30% / 70% split between sand and dirt. This is healthier for the ants.The most important part is to keep the feeding and watering to the smaller box in front. It makes the rest of the ant farm healthier in case of over feeding and watering. Your ants will probably bring their "garbage" and dead ants over to the small box as well.It's a good starter ant farm, and is easily expandable with additional ant farm kits using the plastic tubing to connect them.

Needs better packaging, the bag of sand had broken open, most was caught in the box but will need some more. Would have sent back but ants where here. The tubes were a little bit of a pain, would be better to have a fitting that the tube slides over instead of trying to slide in the hole.But for the price it will work, sands a little dirty since it was mostly in the box.

As soon as it arrived, the ants started digging. They haven’t really stopped digging unlike they had in the one with clear gel. It seems to be easier for them to dig in the sand than it was for them to dig in the gel. Very cool product.

I got this and one with gel, connecting both together with the kids. They love it. The ants seem to prefer to dig on the sand side, and use the gel side to dump their detritus.
