The difference between a multimeter and a signal source includes the type of leads required. A multimeter often requires a small pointed probe that can be touched on to terminals or points on a circuit board to take a reading.A signal source nearly always requires attaching to terminals while a single or a series of signals are injected in to the circuit or instrument.So therefore, the small pointed leads provided are not suitable for the task. If this device is to be used, then the first thing you need to do is buy a different set of leads.*******I need to modify my original 2019 review from 3 stars to 1 (should be 0). I have used this twice since 2019. My recent attempt failed as the device was as dead as a dodo. I left it to charge up over night and it was still dead the following morning. Total waste of money.DO NOT BUY THIS RUBBISH
