No Songs
Firstly, I am not a film fan. I spend time in bed & do not go out due to ill health, so I thought I would give it a go. It was ok & I watched it all the way through but was disappointed that she didn't sing any of her songs in the film. That was what I was expecting.

A must see film classic
I can’t wait to direct this play. A great part for any woman with some great one liners. I could watch it again and again.

Julia takes her first big chance.
This film has probably the finest female cast of any Hollywood film, with all six on top form. It's a comfortable weepy. In other words the characters have so much money they can suffer in comfort. It's notable for a young Julia Roberts giving an early award winning performance which made her a star for evermore, but it's especially enjoyable for the performance of Shirley MacLaine, as the cantankerous love-starved curmudgeon with a heart of marshmallow. Nothing really nasty happens.Enjoy it.

Steel Magnolias
Steel Magnolias [DVD] [1990 ]One of my top ten films - this is a true gem and what a cast - I have lost count of the number of times I have seen this on TV, but I never tire of it. There are amazing performances from everyone and I have cried one minute and laughed the next in some parts of this ( Shelbys Funeral) classic example - to break to tension and lighten the mood - when Saly Fields says "I just want to hit someone" Olympia Dukakis grabs Shirley Mclaine and says " hit her" classic! the story is all based around a beauty parlour in Lousianna and thats where it really all revolves- some of it is very sad and makes you cry, but as I say there some very very funny moments - one of my favourite bits is where Shelby Junior, gives Shirley Mclaine a good slap round the face, as he had just been told she was a mean nasty old witch!! hilarious - watch -cry laugh and enjoy!

Never tire of this film
I have seen this wonderful film so many times and love the way it portrays the child-mother bond and the complex relationships between women. I'm not a fan of Julia Roberts but in this film she really packs a punch as the young woman with diabetes trying to get as much out of her life as possible. Shirley Maclaine is a joy to watch as always - brilliantly acerbic with some great one-liners..."My he's such a gentleman, I bet he takes the dishes out of the sink before he pees in it!". Dolly Parton is stunning to look at and proves she can be a very sensitive actor. This film is to be explored and enjoyed so I wont describe any further so as not to spoil this journey....you'd have to be as hard as nails not to feel Sally Field's distress towards the end of the film, I have yet to see the end credits without tears streaming down my face. 'Life goes on'....
