Excellent camera at an excellent price!
I have been a keen photographer for many years and have had a great number of cameras, from analog to digital. I would say the Canon R8 hit the price-performance point perfectly! While the R8 does not have all the bells and whistles, it has all the features to allow you to become a successful photographer. The image quality is great. The camera is very light, but comfortable to hold. Some review might suggest it does not have a mechanical shutter, but in real life, I barely notice any difference.Highly recommended considering the price point!

Brilliant Compact, light weight full frame camera
Really love this camera, especially the image quality it produces and how small and compact it is. I sold my Canon eos R7 after getting this R8 as it is smaller than R7 and has a full frame censor. With RF small lens, like 35mm 1.8 or 28mm 2.8 it’s a perfect combo for street photography. There is no image stabilisation but i normally use the camera in studio or with gimbal so lack of stabilisation doesn’t effect me. Battery life is not great but not bad either considering the price and other features of this camera. Big plus is 60fps full frame high quality 4k recording in the video mode. Really loved the camera, highly recommended.

Best bang for buck Canon RF full-frame camera
Previous cameras have included various Canon DSLRs and large bridge cameras before a move to Panasonic M43, which I have never quite been happy with, so decided to jump back to Canon with the new mirrorless RF system. This camera is very much an R6 mark 2 with a few things missing to save you about £1000. These include lack of IBIS (stabilisation built into the camera), a smaller battery and fewer buttons (including lack of joystick). For me, these are nowhere near dealbreakers for the following reasons. There are very few RF lenses without image stabilisation, and those lenses that lack stabilisation can be dealt with by upping the shutter speed and iso the good old-fashioned way! The R8 batteries are less than half the price and weight of the R6 batteries, so I just bought a couple more. They last a good 500 shots or so and much more if you shoot a lot at 40fps! Buttons can be re-assigned on the R8 to make this camera VERY usable and VERY efficient (check youtube for tips on this), so lack of joystick is not an issue for me.Basically, this is a massively customisable camera, has pretty much the same fantastic features, sensor and class-leading (at any price) autofocus system as the more expensive R6 mark 2 and is also a fair bit lighter than that camera which is nice. I think it’s an absolute bargain and a joy to use!

Simply superb
I bought this camera last July, eventually upgrading from my 12 year old Canon 6D.The exposure and white balance are very accurate, much better than my 6D.This camera features the same internals as the R6 MK2, so the same sensor and autofocus system, which includes eye tracking, which is wonderful for wildlife photography.I bought an aftermarket EF to RF adapter so I could continue to use my EF glass and they all work perfectly. This camera has exceeded my expectations :)

Faulty battery or charger and impossible to return
Do not buy high value items from Amazon. The only way to return a faulty item is to wait at home for a whole working day for someone to pick up the parcel. You are not given a rough time or even a confirmation that they're coming on a particular day. If you happen to have a job that requires you to be in the office, you're out of luck. Then again, Canon's customer support phone number is a premium rate number, so to request a replacement under warranty you have to pay for the phone call. I have tried other options too, with my blood pressure getting higher every time I hit a brick wall. Of course, there's no way to contact a real person. Lesson learned.

It is a great product!
It is one of the best camera I have ever own for this price. Size is perfect light, small travel friendly. I purchased directly from Amazon UK product warranty registered. Performance wonderful and color accuracy great. You should buy a spare battery which is one of the downsize as battery life but easy to sort it out.

Poor focus
Best thing about this camera is it's lightweight. But there are two main problems with it - first is the battery only lasts an hour at the most but this isn't so much of a problem as you can buy spare batteries for it. The main problem is the poor auto focus. Focus is OK in good light but it really struggles to focus in poor light. Even in good light it doesn't focus very well - it won't focus on faces, especially in poor light. It also only focuses on the foreground too, not the background. It has contrast detection focus, which isn't as good as phase detection. The Canon R6 Mark II does have phase detection and is therefore better at focusing (it's battery also lasts longer than the R8)
