Dr Strangelove - or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb! A true movie classic!
Lot’s of people have reviewed this film before and yes George C. Scott headlined as the star, but for me, this film was stolen by an acting tour de force from Peter Sellers who multi-roled as an ex-nazi US presidential advisor hellbent on war and as a bumbling effete RAF liaison officer who managed to save the day and the planet from a nuclear holocaust. For those who are too young to know his work, this film provides an excellent example of his chameleon like acting abilities.Set at the height of the Cold War, the film raised major ethical and philosophical questions about nuclear armaments in the wrong hands - for those of us who lived through it, a very real experience and something we have forgotten about, but should not forget as it is ongoing in the current light of places like North Korea acquiring long range missiles with nuclear capability. Forget history and it has a horrible habit of repeating itself!Well worth watching for its comedic performances alone but don’t forget its serious implications. It could never happen, or could it?

Timeless Classic
This is one of the films everybody should see at least once in their lives. It's up to the individual to decide if now is the time for it. Because, while it's hilariously funny, the humour is very dark. Pitch black actually. This is political satire at its absolute best and what's sent up here is the Cold War with it's nuclear threats and it's done masterfully. While some aspects of the film are dated and political alliances have changed, it is as topical today as it was when it was made more than half a decade ago. The acting is solid throughout and Peter Sellers is marvellous in multiple roles. For those who don't know: the film is in black and white. But thanks to inspired direction, cinematography and editing it is nonetheless a work of art. Huge fun to watch if you're in t he mood for it.There are so many different formats and releases of this film available with reviews indiscriminately bunched together for all of them that there is little point going through the specs of the disc I bought. It's fine. But it's advisable to read the product description carefully before purchasing if you're looking for particular language/subtitle options and/or extra features.

A must see Film
This is a cold War Classic masterpiece. I guess most have seen this Stanley Kubrick film, but if you have not it will be a few pounds well spent. Filmed in black and white it has a great cast. Peter Sellers plays three parts, the US President, a RAF Group Captain and a mad German Scientist. He is ably supported by the USAF General played by George C. Scott and Stirling Hayden who plays the mad General who sets off a nuclear strike on the USSR. Slim Pickens plays the USAF pilot flying the B52 that potentially ends the world. I won't spoil it if you have not seen it, but the ending, wow!

Once upon a time in the cold war, there was something calledMAD (Mutual-Assured-Destruction), which meant whoeverstarted WW3, the other side would react in kind, thus destroyingeach other... yes... quite mad... I know, but this was a everydayreality living in the cold war. and being a child of thecold war, I remember the fear of Nuclear War,.Although the cold war is over, we still face the threat of a nuclearwar, but it is not something we overtally worry about, but backin the 1960s, it was a possibility, and that is why this film is sogood, as It really taps into the fear of those times.I can't say anything more about this movie. Yes, there area couple of flaws in it, but so does any masterpiece, andthis is a classic. I love Sterling Hayden, and can watch himin any thing. George C Scott is great too, and Ken Adam'sset designs are brilliant...You must watch this film at least once in your life.

A Cold War Classic, with Sellers at his best!
For me it was a self bought Christmas Gift, and partly for all todays, political, gender etc, correctness it is never shown in full on television. Some of the innuendoes of the names would not go down well today either,Jack D. Ripper, Bat Guano, Turgidson, Muffin, also the Vera Lynn song "WE'LL MEET AGAIN"! at the end as the titles show nuclear weapons going off as they did in that era of tests, is well out of the "correctness" of todaySo my reason for having one of my own is obvious. All in all, a brilliant film, great acting, not only by Sellers, but Sterling Hayden, George C. Scott are superb in their support roles too and adds to its greatness.

Striking dark humour with a serious point
Brilliant acting by Peter Sellers in three different roles, President, RAF adjutant and insane scientific adviser. (Interesting that, originally, Sellers was going to play a 4th role - that of the B52 pilot - very well played in the end by 'Slim' Pickens). George C Scott plays an excellent parody of his previous roles - all to good effect. From start to finish the film is full of dark references in ironic humour (probably only best understood by those of us who remember those times - the height of the cold war). Tremendously humorous throughout.

Classic Cold War Comedy Drama
Brilliant satire of the Cold War. This is director Stanley Kubrick at his best.Peter Sellers' performances(he plays three roles) steals the show.. Especially in the part of Dr. Strangelove ,the crazy nazi adviser in a wheelchair . One half of him is 100% nazi, the other half 'normal' ,creating a man in conflict with himself(mentally and physically). Sterling Hayden is the insane air force general who is determined to bring about the nuclear apocalypse. The film goes from comedy to surreal horror as doomsday approaches.George C Scott is also very good as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs. The final minutes of the film however belong to the talented character actor Slim Pickens and this scene will be etched into your mind for ever.Great classic film -Get it if you have not seen it .Well worth the cost of the movie
