I do enjoy time slip books
Having read all of the Graham Saga books which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was so pleased to come across the next in the series, and downloaded it onto my Kindle. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and I loved the fact that a locket was responsible for Erin travelling through time and meet Duncan (and then, of course they went back to her time, and then back to Duncan's time again) Some thoroughly nasty characters as well as interesting ones. It felt a bit uncomfortable reading about how Erin was treated because she was of mixed race, as it brought to mind just how even back then, the question of colour and racism was so to the fore. The moving to different places in the story was very enjoyable, and also, touching on the Jacobite Rebellion which again, showed how intolerant they were of people of other faiths. (not much has changed there then!) Having enjoyed the book so much, I must just say that I agree with Cathie Dunn that the bedroom and sex scenes were (for me) too explicit, and I found myself skipping over those pages. I am not saying that I disagree with what was written - everyone is different, but I just wished that there more adventure and less bedroom scenes. Yes, they were in love, but I am sure that if you were so badly injured as Duncan was, the last thing on your mind would be sex. (I think he would have found it a bit impossible anyhow) But, all in all, I would recommend this book, but beware if you are rather squeamish regarding sex scenes. But, well done Anna, looking forward to the next book.

Vintage Anna Belfrage, with a twist
When you open an Anna Belfrage story, you know you are in for an exciting and intelligent read. The Whirlpools of Time is no different. There is time travel, plus a courageous heroine, endearing hero, quirky characters, family, a mystery, romance, dreadful villains, the eighteenth century – all deftly written. The author is exceptionally good at portraying relationships in good times and bad. She goes beyond the expected stereotypes often found in ‘historic’ fiction and her characters become living people in the flesh. The adaptation (or not!) of each main character to the other’s time is witty and often poignant. In previous books in the Graham saga, we often see the figure of ‘the outsider’ and here the author has portrayed her heroine as a modern American young woman of mixed race. Never obvious, Belfrage has shown us the subtle and not so subtle difficulties of a free woman of colour in the early eighteenth century. A clever and insightful study while keeping the story moving at a cracking pace.Readers of previous Graham series books will not be disappointed in any respect with this new spinoff. New readers will be fascinated and will probably want to search for the original Graham Saga. Highly recommended.

Tightly-plotted page turner
If you’re going to fall through time, then Anna Belfrage is probably the best person to have metaphorically holding your hand. The author of the nine-book Graham Saga is well-experienced in the art of moving her characters through the centuries, and in her new book, she gives them companions, so that Erin and Duncan don’t travel alone.Still, you can take the girl out of the 21st century… Erin struggles to adjust, and who wouldn’t? However, there’s no time for acclimatization as pretty quickly she and Duncan are caught up in the affairs of Arabella Stirling which adds complications to their already perilous mission to find Duncan’s uncle.Strong characterisation, exceptionally skilled plotting, and drama and tension aplenty. A fabulous book.

Excellent read
Another in the Graham saga, a double translation in time; just as gripping, rather more adult. An excellent read, not to be missed.

Full of drama
An accident results in Duncan being thrown 300 years into the future and into Erins life but a disaster has them both heading back through time to Duncan’s world and the Jacobite uprisingI very quickly loved Duncan but found it harder to warm to Erin initially but as the story developed and more of their characters came out I became so entangled in their lives and routing for them right from the time they first met each other. Both of them are smart and independent but together they are stronger and come alive as characters which I loved and which worked so wellI’m not going to lie, I really struggled with this book to start with but I quickly found myself pulled into Erin and Duncan’s story and wasn’t able to put it down. Seeing the difference between their times was fascinating and the seamless blending of the two worked really well, pulling me deeper into the story and seeing things through different eyes. This isn’t a traditional romance but it is full of so much danger and drama that it kept me on my toes and anxious to know what would happen next which I totally lovedI would recommend this book to those who want a story that will have you holding your breath but also being pulled through time and seeing events from a different perspectiveI was granted access to this book in return for an honest review
