I read this in one sitting before passing it on. Affection flows from the pages into your tear-ducts! This is really two stories intertwined, and in two sections – the boy's, then Grandpa's, and a lovely sequel, all in one can't-put-it-down tale of a lifetime ago, when life went at a different and perhaps better pace (cleverly emphasised through the twists in the tale). It briefly reviews the main story of War Horse as part of Grandpa's conversations with the Boy, and old Joey features right through to the end. The range of emotions is comprehensive, from death and loss to success and rejoicing. Perhaps everyone should read these two books ...

I REALLY ENJOYED THE BOOK FARM BOY IT WAS SO GOOD I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN, AS THROUGH EVERY SENTENCE YOU COULD FEEL THE STORY COME TO LIFE THE GRANDFATHER WAS A SUPER PERSON AND YOU YOU FELT THE STORY WAS JUST BRILLIANT THROUGH BOTH THE BOY,S AND THE GRANDFATHERS EYES OF THE FARM LIFE.THE HUMOUR CAME OUT SO WELL TOO, I WOULD SAY THAT YOUNG AND OLD WOULD ENJOY THIS BOOK IT JUST CAPTURES YOU AS YOU READ. EXCELLENT ONE OF MY FAVOURITES.

Good read I remember Michael Morpurgo’s books when I was a supply teacher

Read this with my year 3 class. The LOVED it. I enjoyed it so much that I had to read it ahead of them to find out what happened.

Yet another lovely story from Michael Morpurgo - This is not one that will make you weep like some of his stories but it is a gentle, charming story based around a grandfather and his grandson working and living on a farm. If you have read and loved War Horse it is great to find out what happened to Joey once he returns home after the war. My boys (9 and 13) loved it and it will be listened to again and again in the car!

Short story suitable for young readers.

As the follow-up to War Horse, my expectations were very high. However, they were shattered with this book, full of beautiful illustrations, clear text, and a memorable story. This is one of those books, that you can read over and over again, and still get your heart warmed. One of the best books ever written!

Was quite a short book. Very touching read. Good follow on from war horse. I will be reading more of Michael's books. Thoroughly enjoyed them thus far
