50 litre bag of RHS endorsed Melcourt composted fine bark - ideal for improving your soil

Update after 5 months: This and Clay breaker (from Amazon) made a real big difference to my soil. Places that used to be water logged and mushy have really cleared up. They have blended in with my soil and near decomposed which has improved in texture. Looking forward to spring and summer to see the growth difference. -- This is a huge pack of well composted fine bark (4.5 PH approx.) and arrives in a huge heavy plastic bag with small holes for circulation. It has a sharp odour that gives an indication of being aged and ripe for use. The particles are very fine and appropriate for mixing into the soil straight away. I have heavy clay soil in my house and dug it up around existing plants to around 6 inches in depth and mixed this product in with Vitax Clay Breaker and shuffled heavily with existing soil. At some places where I required heavy drainage I found that removal of existing soil and adding in more of this product worked great as a soil replacement. Overall after mixing it all in and watering I noticed that drainage of water improved greatly and observing over a few days the dampness feels adequate. Places where water used to accumulate after heavy rain feels fine now. Highly recommended as a soil additive and even worked as a mulch around the base of my plants.

Be aware that the sack is very heavy. The product is clean to handle and great for mixing in with soil especially if it is clay or very thin.As it is chipped bark it is great for improving drainage.it is quite fine,not the thicker type sometimes used as pathways it looks more like woody compost.I have used it in a damp heavy area and a dry bed prior to planting next Spring .I have also used it prior to transplanting a Paeony to enrich the soil. I ordered 1 bag but liked it enough to buy a 2nd,good value for money as quality material.

good product just what i needed. unfortunately the bag was burst on arriving but seller was very helpful and took a discount of as lost some product

Nice dark colour. No odour. Fine texture. Spreads easily. Bag is very heavy.

We needed to improve heavy clay soil and although clay breaker was a good start I read that adding humus like this in the form of fine bark was an essential final addition for aeration and a warehouse for nutrients. We have used two bags now and the soil does look and feel more workable for replanting perennials and bulbs.

When I first opened the bag I thought the product looked a bit dry. No need to worry as once it was worked into the ground it bulked up and looked really good.
