Don't let memories of the annoying series put you off!
I've lived the good life and along the way, I've eaten too many pies. Subsequently my girth is straining over my waistband: I'm out of control and I need a solution...hopefully I've found it!I like decent grub and I am an accomplished cook. The trouble is that all these luscious meals mean that my weight has sprialled and my health is suffering. I have decided that counting points and finickety diet plans, with no longevity, are not my bag. I want to be able to eat a calorie controlled meal without resorting to a ready meal or a culling the carbs! The premise of 'Cook Yourself Thin' is that it's a cookbook/diet plan that encourages you to cook proper food but, with a few tweaks, you can make them healthy too! This is exactly what I am after as I want to lose weight by portion/calorie control rather than elimnating food groups. The book is well presented and offers a common sense view of dieting for people who enjoy food. The recipes are not complicated but, to be fair, I am a good cook and know my way around the kitchen. I still think the recipes are easy to follow and certainly no more complex than reading the instructions for a ready meal or oven chips. The only criticism is that this book is a bit of a bummer for vegetarians but you can amend them if you have common sense. For carnivores, you have a good selection of beef, pork, lamb, fish/seafood and the ubiquitous chicken. The puds are clever (esp banoffee pots, lemon merngue mess and beetroot fudge cake) and I really enjoyed the cocktails section. Calorific value is given throughout and it really makes you think about your eating habits not in a recrimintaing way.If you are struggling to motivate your self to diet because you love food then give it a go!Update since review was first published: I have lost more than 2st since writing this review and I have used some of the recipes from this book and the sequel.

Really good book. Full of shocking statistics like a latte and muffin is 765 calories! Makes losing weight, or rather, not putting it on, a whole lot easier. No faddy diets, just a change of mindset. Nice recipes too. A definite one for the modern woman!

Have had this book several years now and am STILL using it regularly. All the meals are straight forward, not too fiddly and not too many ingredients. Can't say I've got thinner, but def not got fatter!

I love this book and the other in the series
I love this book and the other in the series. I use it over and over. My other half isn't that into healthy eating but tucks away into the results from this book.

Lovely recipes
There are some really lovely well thought out recipes. I do feel that visual content is lacking in this book though. It's also nice to see what your dish should look like and sometimes an image motivates you to cook something out of your comfort zone if it looks appealing...

Excellent ideas and also informative about calories and exercise
An excellent cook book, lots of good recipes that are also quite easy. The only gripe I have is that they have a small section on lunches and 7 out of 8 of the recipes are salad.....any form of salad is healthy, you don't really need to do a recipe for them.
