Really really good purchase- not typical cheap Chinese made stuff
Ok this is a basic inexpensive shelf unit. None of the nifty details are phenomenal features that you MUST have. But it is real nice when you buy something inexpensive and it exceeds your expectations in just about every detail. It made me happy with my purchase. My unit arrived with one of the shelf supports 2” shorter than the others. Contact the supplier, they were courteous and resolved the issue quickly. Did have to wait a few days for the part to come from overseas . Supplier was better on follow through than I am!I have a couple of these keyhole adjustable shelving units that are similar to this unit in concept. The various brands I have are all pretty much the same, so I thought I knew what I was getting with this unit, BUT I WAS WRONG! This unit is different than similar units that are available from a big box store. It’s all in the details!as far as sturdiness goes, this unit is somewhat typical of other similar units. If you are buying one of these, just look at the load capacity and steel gauge thickness, as that’s where strength and sturdiness comes from. This is just physics: more steel = more strength = higher cost (typically)This style shelves are generally cheap storage solutions. They are not industrial strength super heavy duty. This review is keeping in mind that this is a low cost unit, and that the level of sturdiness is comparable to other similar type shelves. It should be compared to a unit with similar steel thicknessI bought this particular unit mostly due to its dimensions. I needed it to fit in a specific space. Still, cost was a consideration I don’t like over paying. Now for the impressive details…First of all, the other similar type units I have had particle board shelves (which I always paint before using). This one has metal shelves— they are thin but strong. For me this was a pleasant surprise. I guess I should have read the description better! This is a plus for my application, but if I had something that was a more concentrated heavy load to store, it could be a problem (scratching the paint or denting the metal) of course you could add a piece of plywood on top to address this.Connection of the upper and lower sections is different than other brands. This one has clips to connect the two leg sections vertically. Most other units require you to put a shelf at the junction to make the leg pieces connect. This unit allows you to put your shelves wherever you want. This is a big plus! The connection is MUCH MORE STURDY and reliable. It also makes assembly easier. The finish on these shelves is great! Other units I have come in grey only with a smooth industrial finish. This one is brown with a texture. It’s really nice, comparativelyThe unit comes with a mallet for assembly! It’s not a snap-on quality tool, but is adequate and very helpful for assembly of the unit. I will be adding it to my tool collection for other uses. The mallet protects the finish and makes assembly more convenient it also has some cheap white cotton gloves, which is cute if you need white glove service- I didn’t use them. I find it unlikely that I would have gone over to my tool storage area to get a mallet during assembly, so having one in the box is cool if you are lazy like me— and it was very helpful. The tolerances on the unit are pretty tight, which adds to its strength, and makes the parts a little more difficult to get together—unless you have a mallet! It comes with 16 rubber foot pads which is enough to plug the top and bottom if you desire to use the kit as two short shelves instead of 1 tall unit. Again a nice detail. The anti-tipping hardware looked OK. I didn’t need it as it is installed in a closet where tipping is impossibleIt was really nice to have my expectations exceeded. Very happy with the purchase.

Good, solid shelves
Easy to assemble, decent capacity and good value for money. The directions are clear and they are adjustable and therefore versatile. I purchased a few sets and like that they are not too tall. The thickness of the metal is decent. They are substantial enough but not too heavy to move if you wish. Great for extra storage.

Thinner than expected and darker blue; some assembly tips
I was looking for a heavy-duty shelfing unit that could handle the weight of books and boxes of magazines. From the reviews, this one sounded sturdy. Also, it came in a lovely royal blue, based on the photos. The color is actually a dark navy. I took a photo outdoors with a Chewy box for comparison. In flash photos, it looks much bluer. In indoor light, it looks dark navy, almost black. The shelves are 31” x 16.5,” not 32” x 17.” It was probably built with metrics, so it’s “close” but not quite. It is 72” high. The parts were well packaged and arrived safely. Tough rubberish protectors had kept the ends from getting dinged and there was that thin Styrofoam wrap around the connecting bars. Nothing was bent or missing. First, I laid out all the pieces and took inventory. Make sure you take everything out and lay it out because the gloves, hammer, and feet are packed between the shelves. For reference, I am a small, older female. I enjoy assembling things and feel comfortable with tools but am not good with strength. One person can do this alone, but when you build the base, it’s a little wobbly until you get all four sides connected, and I was holding up one side with my body while I got the other side sorted out. From the illustration, I was confused about which direction to put the bars, but I realized the shelf needs a platform to sit on. Think about building a platform for the shelf and then it makes sense. The holes will be on top. When you put the vertical bars up, make sure the keyhole (or lightbulb, or pear) shape has the smaller part at the bottom. However, when you put the “feet” on the top vertical bars, remember they’ll go on the large side of the keyhole shape (unlike the feet on the bottom on the unit). The instruction booklet calls them “rubber feet,” but they are just plastic and do not want to stay on. They kept flying off even when I pounded them with the mallet. Be careful about the buttons. Each bar has two buttons on each side. The side bars were fine, but the longer cross bars kept popping out on one side. I’d get all four buttons lined up, but when I pounded down the left side, the right side would pop out. Use your fingers (if you’re like me and your eyes don’t work so well) to make sure all four buttons are out when you press down to put the bar in place. I used my hands to press down first and then started hitting it with the mallet. At first, I was afraid to hit very hard in case I bent the metal. Like I said, I’m an older woman and not super strong, so I wasn’t hitting hard enough at first. You don’t want to see any daylight through the bottom of the keyhole shape. [In my picture, the buttons are not down far enough. More mallet was needed.] Of course, go around all sides a couple times because pounding on the one side will make it start to lift up on the other. I spent almost an hour and a half putting it together, but I was using a level, taking measurements, and using the mallet less aggressively than I could have.I recommend having a step stool, a yardstick, and a level (if you have one). To pound the upper vertical legs in, I had to stand on a step tool to get above them. I am 5’2.” Make sure the vertical posts are in the folded grooves of the connectors and pound them all the way down. I tested the bottom shelf and first shelf with my level before I continued. The instruction booklet calls the shelves “metal board.” It comes with sixteen plastic feet in case you want to make two separate units I guess. Remember there are only 5 shelves, so you can’t make two identical units. It says to wear gloves, but I didn’t so that I could feel the little buttons. Afterwards, I wished I’d worn the gloves. The unit has a very “Prop 65” smell. That’s a California thing that warns you of dangerous materials known to cause cancer and birth defects. When you go in a “dollar store” in California, warning labels are on half the merchandise!Would I buy another one? No. Mostly because I’m disappointed in the color, and I don’t like that Made in China odor, and that clanging sound is still ringing in my ears. I tested boxes of books (40 to 50 pounds) on each shelf (not the top shelf!) It seems solid enough. I didn’t test my own weight. The listing says each shelf can hold 338 lbs. I would not try stacking bags of Quikrete concrete mix on it, no way. I don’t want to try testing it to see where it bends. I just hope it can hold heavy books without sagging over time. At the moment I have 160 pounds of books in boxes on the bottom shelf, and it seems fine. I took some photos in case they might be helpful to anyone. Thanks for reading.

DO NOT BUY - Garbage shelves
This stuff is garbage, and the company is terrible to deal with. DO NOT BUY! They are a waste of money, and their customer support is awful.
