A really great film - suitable for the whole family
This film is based upon the true story of a young man that followed his dream. From a very young age, Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger wanted to play for his favourite college football team; the "Fighting Irish" of the University of Notre Dame. They have a proud history and young Rudy idealised their achievements.However, as he grew older, he found that he did not have the academic abilities, and was unable to continue his studies into higher education. Working in a local steel mill, he witnessed the death of his friend; and this galvanised him into trying again. He gains a place in a junior college and with the help of various people manages maintain a sufficiently high enough grade to apply for a transfer. In the mean time, he does whatever he can to keep body & soul together and support his beloved Irish.He finally gets his transfer; and as a student at Notre Dame, is eligibale to join the practice team as a "walk on"; someone that that acts as the opposition to give the first team players a chance to hone their skills. Despite his lack of athletic ability, his burning desire to play wins him many friends and they want to see him rewarded by getting at least one chance to put on the blue & gold for a game.It's a feel good film made all the better by being based on a true story. Even if you are not a fan of American Football, this is great movie to watch and one that is suitable for all ages. Even though I know the ending, I still find myself jumping to my feet at the end of the film; it's that good.

Best Sports Film
I don’t usually like sports films but this is an exception. It’s not the usual tale of a no hoper or renegade going on to win the Super Bowl. It’s far more subtle, a great lesson in life in what you can achieve if you put your mind to it. Rudy would be one of my 8 movies to take to a desert island.

class film
A true story about rudy Ruettiger. A young kid who only ever wanted to play American football for Notre Dame, the college team his father has followed all his life. Rudy doesn't take no for an answer and will do anything to be a part of the team (Even cleaning their football helmets) his sheer will, determination and undying love for the team mean this young kid gets battered and bruised by the largest of players whilst practising with the team in the hope that just once, he might actually step out onto the turf wearing the famous Notre Dame colours. A must watch film on par with Remember the Titans. Hope to see it released over here on region 2 soon!!!

Lovely film, my family quite enjoyed it. It appears the director has just made an extremely similiar (different sport, different characters, broadly same story) film, Eddie the Eagle, which is basically the same story of an underdog who goes on to win Big in his own idiosyncratic way. Both are good uplifting films about winning against the odds.
