It was the booker winner, and having read the long list, I agree

Took this as a recommendation from BBC’s “Between the Covers”. Initially, I wasn’t convinced but then the subject matter took over. We are sanitised by our “westernised” conflicts and wars; which are far more “relevant” and “white” that we can easily forget there are conflicts and misery, less headline-making, that are no less painful. Many have gone on for years and in parts of the world that we had considerable influence but are less ‘strategic’ or news-worthy now.Cleverly writing in a way that is unique and that is what drew me in. Not sure where the sympathy levels appear on Maali’s graph but you hope his work has an impact somewhere. Sometimes the villains do not always lose completely!
