Not the Complete Guide
Very Little About learing how to play this. Very much a theory book (talk of sonata form and development) but doesn't take you through any exercises. Examples require virtuoso playing. Not a technique book. If you like modern prog or ELP you might enjoy (I am no fan of ELP). very 40,000ft level. Would not recommend unless you are already a working prog keyboard player looking for some ideas.I think I will be able to slice out some of it's riffs ideas and use it as a jumping off point extracting ideas from keyboard work I like.

Indeed Helpful for Proggers
Being exclusively a prog-rock oriented keyboardist, I was a little skeptical about the contents of this book before purchasing it, but, to my surprise, Dan Maske has proven to a real prog-rock 'connoisseur'. For starters, the band references employed in the book are great, drawing both from classics like ELP, VDGG or King Crimson, as well as more obscure bands like Anglagard and Ozric Tentacles. Some of the classic analog keyboards are covered in detail (such as the mellotron and the minimoog) not to mention the old beloved Hammond B3 Organ. The material included in the CD is phenomenal, illustrating very well the printed material. The final lessons are supported by backing tracks for real-time practice. Pretty much, recommended to INTERMEDIATE level players...

Great book!!!
I don't why anyone has'nt written a review for this book yet. Its perfect, and the accompanying CD is so helpful to help learn the rhythms of progressive rock keyboard. I would greatly recommend this book if you are sick of playing yankee doodle or any other book with boring sheet music. Contained in the book is an adequate description of the genre and presents perfect examples that you can learn. I found this book very satisfying and not too hard. I also have the rock keyboard and find that one great as well. So do buy these books.

Songs sound mediocre at best
You can go to the Hal Leaonard website and hear 5 of the songs/solos from the book and they go from sounding just plain awful to mediocre. It's too bad. This could have been a good book.

The accompanying tracks are excellent. The one huge mistake is exercises with rhythm section only.
Definitely needs a second track for each exercise. One with keys. One without keys. The ability to play along with the band builds confidence and presents unlimited improv material.

Very informative!
The book is packed with information. However although still a bit challenging it has given me an insight this genre. Definitely intermediate level!

Excellent, with just a little weirdness
The product itself is excellent, I learned A LOT from it. I especially liked the survey of different styles, with original examples for each, it really allowed me to get into the style.I did end up with about 24 extra pages duplicating the first ones, but since I had all the book's 112 pages before that otherwise, it didn't bother me, and I wasn't missing out on anything.
