Melissa & Doug Wooden Lift-Top Desk & Chair - Espresso

I bought this desk for my almost-two-year-old for Christmas and it is so perfect! First of all, as soon as I opened the box, I was hit with a wonderful wood smell. It took some assembly, but I could see that this desk was very high quality, real wood (not particle board) and once assembled, was sturdy and solid. My son loves it. The chair is a little tall for him, his feet don't touch the ground when sitting all the way in the chair, but he doesn't mind. And I like that he can grow into it. His older brother (4 years old) fits fine and I can see this being a homework desk for Kindergarten and even longer. There is lots of storage under the lid, and I took the advice of one reviewer and ordered clear plastic make up containers for the ledge at the top for all his crayons. Opening the lid does not affect the containers and contents on the ledge at the top. My son has already scribbled with his crayons all over the top, but it wiped off easily and no damage to the surface. It seems to be coated with a protective glaze or something that protects it from dings and dents. It seems it will last for a long time. I highly recommend this desk.

The table and chair are very sturdy for my kiddo and very good quality with good price. We absolutely love it !

I bought two of these for our homeschooling endeavor and I’m really happy with the quality. The desks were easy to put together, look beautiful, and are very sturdy. The chairs are very sturdy as I can sit down in them without fear my adult tuchus isn’t going to break it. The instructions are very easy to follow and each desk took less than 25 minutes from opening the box to cleaning it all up.

OMG this is VERY VERY WELL PACKAGED. Protective sheets on every piece inside the box so they don't scratch/rub against the other pieces!!! Instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Parts of the desk were already put together. Just basically attach the legs and put the chair together. This is great quality furniture and will last a lifetime for my grandson to use. WELL WORTH THE MONEY to get something with this quality instead of some cheap flimsy wood product from other chain stores! <3

Good quality and almost assembled

Purchased for our 2 year old granddaughter. She took right to it and heads for it as soon as it's meal time. She also learned the top lifted on her own and discovered coloring books and crayons! I keep a "lacey look" placemat on the desk and a small photo of her with her mommy and daddy. I would call the color more of a dark cherry which goes perfectly with our other furniture. It adds a nice touch and makes us think of her when she's not here. Love it!

First off, I am certainly that there are two versions being sold under this listing. There is no way to assemble the product that arrived at my door. It is also different from what is pictured. The hinge is a third of the way in towards the middle of mine and it makes it impossible to screw in the leg bolts without removing the already assembled lid to the desk. Once this is done, it is still not possible to screw the bolts in due to the angle setting them right up against the wall. You can't turn a screwdriver without hitting the back wall of the desk. The machining of the bolt receptacle that is recessed in the leg is off/ very tight. The bolt takes an unreasonable amount of force to drive it in, which is not possible due to not being able to turn a screwdriver inside the desk. It was hard enough to get the bolt in, while just checking to see what was up without mounting the leg. On one of the legs, the screw and receptacle machining was so bad that just screwing it in stripped the bolt and made the leg not tight and wobbly. I have years of experience putting together this type of "Ikea style" furniture. A lot of it has its quirks, but this just should have been scrapped. Unfortunately, I could not return this item as I had passed the window for return, I have an additional unit that is still in the box that I can't even resell due to having a conscious. I can't believe that they are selling the version that showed up at my door. Don't risk it.

Easy to assemble, sturdy, and kid friendly. I bought it to use as photography prop and works great. Easy to clean.

Good quality with a nice finish. Amazon also quickly sent a replacement item after I noticed a small crack on the desk after installation. Overall the item is worth its price and my kid now enjoys doing his homework!

Bought this desk for my 5yr old and we love it. Its great quality for the price. Comes with a little storage area as well. Its very neat so we have it in our living room and it fits in with the rest of the house. Great buy
