Pan’s Labyrinth is a dark fantasy drama horror tale the story is dark twisted whimsical. It is dark and magical beyond imagination. The story takes place in Spain during summer of 1944 five years after Spanish Civil War. Enchanting and a perfect companion to the actual movie (in Spanish)
A story within a story, Pan’s Labyrinth is a series of fairytales that will have you engrossed and enchanted. The story has connections to the current world that will keep you rooted. When Ophelia and her mother travel to the countryside to meet her new father Captain Vidal, she also meets a ‘fairy’. And that’s how she is introduced to the Labyrinth and the ancient creature that lives there.Ophelia finds out that she is actually Princess Moana, the daughter of the underworld and has to finish three tasks in order to open a portal that will take her home.In the real world, Vidal is evil incarnate who takes pleasures in torturing the rebels and killing innocents. As there two worlds collide, the readers are sucked into a world of possibilities and a world of evil. The book reads like any Middle-Grade novel and is precise. If you had the opportunity to watch the movie (available on Netflix), you’ll find it exactly the same as the book. So read the book and watch the movie, because both of them are fabulous.

Truly Magical and Inspiring
Book : Pan's LabyrinthAuthor : Guillermo del ToroGenre : Children FantasyWe have all heard about movies being made from books and at times criticized them for leaving out so much from the books but there are extremely less cases when we see movies translated to books and the one we are talking about here was a major success garnering critical acclaim all over the world. Pan's Labyrinth was a 2006 fantasy film which even made Stephen King squirm in his seat and we finally have the literary adaptation of the same.Pan's Labyrinth is the story of Ofelia who moves in with her mother to her stepfather's place. A gullible girl who still believes that magic exists in the world looks at the people in the same frame of lens. Her surprise knows no bounds when she meets a Fawn who tells her that she is a princess of the Underworld and gives her three tasks to return back.A book based during Spanish Civil War needs no introduction to readers who are familiar with the movie. The scene by scene adaptation has been done pretty keenly (unlike the screenplay adaptation of JK Rowling's Fantastic Beasts movies). You get to gasp at the right moment. You get happy for Ofelia whenever she does things right and are scared for her when she is in trouble. The best part about the books are its beautiful illustrations by Cornelia Funke that you must check it out.The story is truly magical and it make me relive my time of those beautiful fairy tales that I used to read during my childhood. A must read for all children and adults alike. This has been one of my most memorable experience of 2019 in the literary world.

Loved this little beautiful and enchanting book!
One of my most anticipated reads of the year and it surely did not disappoint!Pan’s Labyrinth is a dark, YA fantasy novel that follows 13 year old Ofelia and her pregnant mother who arrive at an old mill to live with Capitan Vidal, Ofelia’s mother’s new husband and a merciless killer of the rebels. She stumbles upon a Labyrinth and meets Pan, a Faun who tells her about the tale of Princess Moanna’s sudden disappearance ages ago.The book is set in Spain after Franco’s ascension in 1944 and also follows Mercedes, a housemaid at Capitan Vidal’s mill, who with a doctor is helping the rebels and seems to get attached to Ofelia. The two stories run parallel and intersect beautifully, one being enchanting with fairies, the tricky Faun and stories of the watchmaker etc. and the other with important themes of death, brutality and courage.I absolutely loved how the short chapters mixed with a few stories made for such a quick and captivating read, packing in so much!I enjoyed this one so much and highly recommend it if you’re looking for a nice fantasy, mixed with a little adventure.I give this 4/5 and absolutely can’t wait to watch the movie from which the novel is adapted.

Precioso
