Looks amazing
There are several 3d versions of Hokusai's Great Wave available on Amazon. In my opinion this is the best looking. Went together with no issues. The instructions are easy to follow along with. Will make a great display piece.

Nice sculpture of a famous painting, great for fans of Lego or Japanese art
This set is a high quality custom build (MOC), although the bricks are not genuine Lego. They are Lego compatible and are of high quality. There was no loose fitting bricks in my set of hundreds of bricks; if anything some of the pieces were 15-20% tighter fit than Lego bricks. This isn't an issue if you plan to use this as a display piece. My gold plate pieces were also a little warped, but the tight fit of the assembly straightened them out over time. The set comes with bags which are numbered in groups 1-7. There is no order in the bags of a particular number group, but they are organized by piece type. A few steps in though you will have opened all the bags of that number and poured the pieces out. Its not as convenient as Lego's bags, but if you keep the pieces of each bag in their little pile its not too bad.The instruction manual was quite thick, and it laid everything out clearly. There is a color guide at the beginning (because it uses several shades of transparent blue pieces), and the pieces you need for each assembly step are clearly listed. Overall, I thought assembly was a breeze - no unusual building techniques or surprises. You're building the sculpture one layer/row at a time, and it does get a bit repetitive both in color and build pattern. The design seems to prefer the use of smaller 1 by x pieces when in a number of steps a 2 by x piece would've added more stability. It probably was an economic decision to use more smaller pieces of the same size. The final build is static, so this design choice doesn't impact overall durability. The end result looks nice and looks attractive from multiple angles. A nice display set for Lego fans of Japanese culture or art.

Great display piece, great building experience
I am super impressed with the Pantasy The Great Wave Building Set! I’ve done a lot of building sets, both Lego and off-brand, and this is one of the best off-brand experiences I’ve had. I spent 3 days building this set, about an hour or two each day. The best part of each day!The number one most important thing: the pieces stay together. I never had to substitute or try a different piece, they always snapped together. The instructions are extremely clear. Some steps have Chinese text, but I never needed to translate, I could always tell what each step wanted. The building experience was stress-free, which is a big plus for me. I do building sets for stress relief and to refill my creativity center, so I don’t want to puzzle over what I should be doing. There are 552 steps on 193 pages, so yeah, I’m relieved the instructions were so easy to follow. A little thing Pantasy did that I really like is to specify the size of some pieces, like if I needed a 1x6 plate or a 1x3 tile. And the first page of the instructions has a color guide, so I could tell the different solid and transparent blues apart. The set uses some SNOT (Studs Not On Top) building techniques to make the waves, and different blues to create depth. There are a lot of trans blue and trans light blue pieces! The base is made of pearly gold plates, with pearly gold accents clipped along the outside. The finished build looks cool at every angle. This is a great display set. The design really brings the painting to life in 3D format. The pieces are separated into numbered bags, but you’ll need to open all the bags with the same number at the same time. For example, there are four #1 bags, and you’ll need pieces from all four bags.

designs are more intricate and pieces are smaller than Legos
This is a snap-together building kit like what Lego sells, except that the pieces are much smaller. These "micro mini" pieces have been popularized by the Japanese Nanoblock kits. These pieces are too small for pre-teen children to work on by themselves, so Nanoblock recommends age 14 and above for even their simplest kits. This Pantasy Great Wave kit recommends for adults only, but older teens can probably handle it if they have patience and a good attention to detail.Like Lego kits, this kit comes with a thick instruction book and many bags of pieces. Unlike Lego (unfortunately) you do not open the bags sequentially. You will need to open all of the bags before you are half done with the kit. I wish they used the Lego method of having the bags of pieces follow the chapters in the instruction manual. On the plus side, the pieces are well made and fit together well. The instructions are all in picture form and easy enough to follow. The completed kit is small enough to not take up too much space and looks great; like a 3D version of the famous painting.

A instantly recognizable painting makes for a very cool design
This is my second Pantasy brand set. My first being the Astro Boy set. I must say I am a fan of their quality. They do make a premium product. I’d say they are 85-90% the quality of Lego. The instructions are thick and printed on quality stock. They even identify what the colors look like in illustration vs photo. The bags are numbered, and there are a total of 7 steps, but a ton of bags. I’m only on the second step, but so far it isn’t as tedious as I was anticipating. The only thing I wish they had done differently, from what I have seen, is I wish they painted faces on the micro figures. I have only seen what they look like on the box though, as I haven’t found which bag they are in yet. That’s one of the only reasons I didn’t rate it 5 stars. That and the lack of digital instructions. Will update my review when I complete the build. But so far I’m a fan of Pantasy sets.Update: I was missing a bag from Step 6. I contacted Pantasy and they sent me some of the missing parts, but not all of them. I contacted them again, and they needed a full inventory of everything that was missing. I honestly don't have time to do that, and so the score is getting dropped a star as I have a nearly complete set, but not all the pieces to complete it. I may eventually do an inventory, but they should have been able to identify the missing bag, based off the missing parts list I gave them. I like this company, but will hold off on any additional purchases until I get this sorted. Just passed on their cool new Popeye set because of this experience.
