Excellent visual dinosaurs guide
Covering the age of dinosaurs from its early beginnings to the end, this book presents expertly rendered images of a wide range of types, organized by era and type. Each includes a snippet of text with details and facts about the dinosaur shown. Additional sections explain how various details of dinosaur anatomy are deduced and how paleoartists apply that knowledge. Early teen or young adult reading but not condescending for older readers. An excellent choice for sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews interested with scientific and/or artistic interests. Also good for us old dinosaur nerds.

You can judge this book by its cover. It feels like you have a dinosaur in your hands.
Paleontology has been making incredible progress since the 21st century began, and paleoartists have been hard pressed to keep up. More dinosaurs have been discovered in the past decade than in the approximately 200 years from the 1820s, when the first dinosaur, Megalosaurus was discovered, to the turn of the millennium. But Paleoartists Bob Walters and Tess Kissinger are on top of things, and recent discoveries are not overlooked in this beautiful book. Over 150 dinosaurs are included, each one with a clearly drawn illustration, and pertinent information such as pronunciation of its name, meaning of name, size, order and suborder, time period and where the first fossil was discovered. There is also a paragraph of useful and informative facts about each dinosaur. In addition to the individual illustrations of each dinosaur, there are two three-foot long foldout illustrations, based on the murals that Walters and Kissinger did for the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, showing what scenes from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods may have looked like. Throughout the book there are illustrations showing scenes from throughout the Mesozoic Era. Looking at these, one realizes that the artists must not only know dinosaur anatomy, but also what the plant life of the periods was like. There are also sections on basic paleontology and fossils, hip structures and classification, coloring, and the extinction of the dinosaurs.Even the front cover of the book shows the extra thought and attention that the authors gave. Rub your fingers across the textured cover. It feels like you are petting a dinosaur.I bought a copy for myself on Amazon. And once it arrived, I immediately ordered more copies to give to young friends and relatives. This is the perfect book for the young dinosaur enthusiast in your family. And for the older enthusiast, as well.

Breathtaking dinosaur art for young readers and old!
When I was eight years old, I fell in love with dinosaurs, thanks to the touring Sinclair models. That love never faded, and I've written six dinosaur books for kids to prove it. But I am now suffering DISCOVERING DINOSAURS envy. Because if I had to recommend just one expansive dinosaur books for school and public librarians hoping to freshen their shelves, this would be the book. It is visually and factually amazing. Bob and Tess are not just writers who love dinosaurs. They are paleontological experts who have dedicated their lives to accurate dinosaur depiction and public education. Not every paleontologist agrees with their artistic conclusions. But most respect the scientific rigor that goes into their choices. If you want a current, beautifully illustrated dinosaur encyclopedia for readers 7 to 9 -- your search has happily ended. Buy this oversized visual feast without hesitation. It's a masterpiece rendered at the hands of true masters. Want a second book to round things out, chec out PREHISTORIC PREDATORS, created by the same publishing house. Also stunning.
