The media could not be loaded.  While this lamp performs as expected, for the price, I expected a more solid construction. The entire thing is plastic and feels fragile right out of the box. The "lava" is just little red plastic beads that do not change shape, combine, or separate. The beads are forced out of the "volcano" by a jet of water, the direction of which MINE faces being oriented a bit off center.The instructions ask that one soaks the plastic beads in water for 24 hours before use, which I did. The directions also ask that uses pure water, which I did. Taking the 24 hour delay into consideration, it's kind of an anticlimactic gift unless opened and set up in advance.One must forgive my video. I chose the battery option, instead of plugging the lamp into a wall socket. There is a USB power adapter included; however, the USB "block" is NOT included. The USB adapter might as well be proprietary since the load side (the side which plugs into the lamp) is not USB or USBc. It is a female prong of some sort. Anyway... I picked the battery option to see how long the batteries (new Duracells) would last (less than 3 days at 24 hours a day) and my video was shot towards the end of those batteries' lives. With new batteries, or plugged in, the plastic beads shoot all the way to the top of the lamp and are propelled at a speedier rate. Honestly, I preferred the less aggressive rate; but, that would be hard to achieve on purpose.The option for batteries or AC is the nicest feature. Still... It's all plastic; looks plastic, feels plastic, and the whole experience is pretty much plastic. The lamp is a novelty, sure; but, without the "lava" effects of a true lava lamp, the novelty wears off quickly.

This little thing is really cool. Just fill with water (distilled recommended), but I used tap water, 8 drops of Dawn dish soap, "PUT WATER IN FIRST", emptied the beads into the water, and put on the cap. Plugged in and hit the button located in front, near the bottom of the unit. 1 press through 7 presses changes the colors and starts the flowing of the beads. 8th press and the lights slowly alternated through the colors. 9th press or 2 second press on the power button turns off the unit.The unit does take batteries as well, but I did not have any available at this time for testing.I doubt that the unit has any type of turn off timer, as I turned it on and so far it has not shut off.Awesome display.

I bought this for my brother and he loves to use this. It is so good to use and I like how it works. All of the functions and the red colors looks so cool.

Brings me back to my childhood. I love this lava lamp, it is beautiful and makes me feel like a kid again. Never thought I’d get so much satisfaction from a lamp haha, but I love it.
