Great Birthday present.
Ships have pretty good detail on them. Seems fairly durable as well. Should survive a few months with an 8 and 6 year old.

Micro Galaxy Squadron Death Star Trench Run

Awesome, better than buying separately. Fragile Though.
Just to be clear, tie fighter wings do not fall off, they come off as a play feature, so these r totally worth the money, though these toys aren't meant for non careful kids under 10 or 11. If you want toys to play with, for making action and throwing these aren't it, tie fighter wings can fall off, because the peg gets stuck in the hole where it’s supposed to easily come on and off. My Tie bomber closing lid for Vader came off and I have to ask my dad to put it back on if I take out Vader. So I do reccomend buying but be careful, and do NOT play roughly, but is these are for display, great product. If you want a tie fighter, a x wing, and a tie bomber, just get these, you'll get another tie fighter too for better action scenes and you can recreate the trench run scene. Buying them separately would be more expensive, so get them now. X wing has an excellent play feature, even small, Vader looks AWESOME, though he can't go into the ship with his cape on, and every tie looks sweet. If you’re new to the micro galaxy, get this, it's awesome.

Nice relatively inexpensive ships for display.
For the most part, the Micro Galaxy Squadron ships are nice replicas of the movie ships. I think they are likely targeted more at grown-ups who want to just display them. The pilot figures are pretty tiny and Vadar has a detachable cape. The Tie-fighter hatches pop off pretty easily. I'm not sure about durability for a kid who is actually playing with them. I know I was pretty rough on my toys. With the exception of this set, mine have been purchased on sale or clearance, but even at full retail (what I paid for these), the price is not bad for what one gets. They are "toys" not "models" so more detailed and "to-scale" ships can be found but they are likely far more expensive as well. These work well for me as display pieces.

5y son loved it
We bought these for our sons 5th birthday. He loves them. They are small & plastic so he learned quickly they could be broken if too rough (not durable for crashing) but perfect for pretending to fly around and use his imagination. I would not recommend if littles still put things in their mouth. The details on these are great. They do not make noise or require batteries.
