The fondant will last, in the freezer, for up to a year. Before you add it to the hive, you will want to bring it up to room temperature. The fondant is designed to be placed on top of the frames. Q: How many sheets come in a 5 lbs box?

5 1-lb square sheets. If I’m feeding two hives, I’ll break them in half so each hive gets 1/2-lb of Lemongrass and 1/2-lb of Peppermint. The bees love it!

I use this for winter feed as a patty, no water involved

Hello and thanks for your question. The fondant doesn’t really melt if kept away from moisture. Once it is out in the open or inside a hive, it will start to absorb the moisture around it. It will melt if there is excess moisture inside the hive. We either put it just under the inside cover or I will take out a frame and add the fondant down between the frames. The parchment can be used as a base for the fondant; it won’t harm the bees at all. I hope this has been helpful and let us know if you have any other questions.
