Does exactly what it is designed for
Easy to replace old (similar type) switch and does exactly what I need it to do - allow me to switch the lights on from the other side of the room and dim as necessary. Not too fancy. Just a remote switch. Perfect!

They don't make them like they used to
I bought this to replace an older Varilight remote controlled dimmer switch that looked exactly like this. It failed and kept destroying LED bulbs, so was time to get a new one. Much to my surprise, this DOESN'T work with LED bulbs (or at least, the bulbs I have). The touch response is tempramental at best. The remote control function doesn't work at all (it'll learn the code, but never respond to it). What these guys have changed is anybody's guess. I guess the saying is true... "they don't make them like they used to". A switch I bought and used for 10 years that worked flawlessly with dimmable LEDs outperforms newer technology. By a mile!

Becoming technically obsolescent
I've had 4 of these over the years - because the remote plip operation was useful in bedrooms. Unfortunately, they seem to burn out after about two years with a high (240W) incandescent bulb load (hence 4 units owned for only 2 rooms where they were installed!) and their operation with LED bulbs is highly unpredictable even when you get the programming right. Rural power interruptions are not unheard of and the switch always seems to turn the lights on when power is restored. Merely irritating unless you are holiday for a few weeks when it is expensive as well! As "Alexa" powered devices have become cheaper and more reliable, I have dispensed with these switches.

Better than expected
Bought this with the remote dimmer switch. Was dubious at first given the two dimmer switches I had before 'popped', but these worked. I am running 8 X 6W led spots and i have no problem with the dimming function. However there is a slight flicker at the lower end (dimmer set to low) which is why it's a 4 and not a five from me. Better than expected !

Significantly reduced functionality from previous models
I had one of these in my previous house and was very happy with it. It worked brilliantly for more than 20 years and as far as I know is still going strong. I was therefore delighted to see that the same make and model was still available. Sadly I concur with the low rated scores. Unlike the originals, the touch control are extremely temperamental. The 'slow start' circuitry gives a frustrating delay between touch and the lamp lighting. Added to the frustration is that often it will ignore the touch completely and will need to be touched again and again to FINALLY light the lamp. Remote control use is better but again, the remote is significantly less sensitive than the previous models. On top of these serious issues, it's EXTREMELY picky which dimmable LED bulbs it will work with, with no smart way to determine which bulb might work and which won't. I've had to buy many bulbs and only found one very small one that works, but it looks goofy and doesn't provide enough light. Yes the switch does work hence 2 stars, but I'm looking for something better to replace it

Classy light switch
Light came with clear instructions for fitting. Looks very high end and works well with the remote (sold seperarly). It's worth noting that this does not come with a back box, either use what is in place or purchase seperatly. The brushed metal doesn't leave finder prints, which is ideal.
