Has to be seen even if you own the "DR NO" standard DVD.
You have to see this in Blu Ray they have done a fantastic job. You are so conscious that you are seeing so much more detail than on a standard DVD release. Its almost like you are on the set watching it being filmed. You notice so much more even in the set design. I had forgotten how good the first Bond film was. All the later stuff is here right at the start. The gorgeous girls the great set great locations and best of all Sean Connery. If "DR NO" had of been an American film Connery would have got an Oscar for sure just for this role alone. No one looked like Sean in any film before or after. He was in charge right for the go total screen presence. And no film was like this film before and for such a modest budget. See the sets and the large control room at the end; it was fantastic. This movie changed how all Hollywood would film movies and edit them as "DR NO" was edited to look much faster and interesting. But sadly because Britain had out maneuvered the Americans it was not rewarded with many Oscars. I bought all the sixties Bond movies on Blu Ray and am looking forward to enjoying them.By the way when I.T.V. re-show the Bond movies they cut bits out of them which has stopped me watching them in full as it spoils my enjoyment. Also the commentaries are worth putting on after you have watched the movie as you learn great facts and trivia about the movies and actors.

Great Picture & Sound for First Bond Film!
I was very impressed with the quality of the picture, and noticed a subtle multi-coloured weave in one of Connery's suits as a result. Of course, the film is terribly dated, and the fight scenes are pretty hokey, but therein lies its charm I think, and it brings back memories of times gone by. The opening credits were ace, with the red, white, and orange circles on a black background. Totally Sixties! The women in the film are also all gorgeous, especially 'Honey Rider' - Ursula Andress in her off-white bikini, web belt and whopping great knife. To be honest, most of the females depicted are pretty badass, so any accusations of male chauvinism should not be taken too seriously. Let's face it, men aren't the only gender with a sex-drive and it takes two to tango!Highly recommended, but Junior might not be too impressed with the action and special effects.

A GREAT FIRST BOND MOVIE!
Well; for those James Bond fans who were so upset with my Review for `Casino Royale' (even though I must remind them that the purpose of Reviews is not for pleasing those pea-brained idiots who are too stupid to realise it) - compare this rating for the one I gave for that title, which caused such offence to many.I hadn't seen this Bond movie for years - but what a difference!! This is WAY more exciting than that `crap', so long since I'd seen this I'd forgotten just how much...Loved the scenes with Anthony Dawson in particular - one of my favourite actors, and one who was grossly underrated. See him in classics such as: `Dial `M' For Murder' and `The Queen Of Spades'. (see my Reviews for those titles too) I also loved the scenes featuring the woman photographer who tries to get shots of Bond. There are also tense and exciting scenes when James is climbing through the tunnel waterways - not forgetting of course the scene featuring the Spider! All this type of thing is far better for me than some forty-five minutes or so of constant and repetitive `action' sequences that have no real meaning at all in order to keep the interest of those who have no more attention span than that of the average Guinea Pig...When you compare something like these old classics with the modern James Bond movies, it's probably time to give up the series I think... Craig is great as a `Bond', but the stories and scripts are just lousy...

Doo Doo Do Doo
Dr No is still amongst the best ever Blu-Ray releases. The restoration job is superb. It's crisp and colourful, bringing British agent 007 James Bond vividly to life in this, the original of the early Sean Connery incarnations. Though not the original of author Ian Felming's Bond adventures, (Casino Royale), it was nonetheless a solid choice to launch the character on the big screen. The narrative's trajectory runs very close to that of its source material, though Bond versus the Squid is a thankful omission. Dr No perhaps lacks the pace of the soon to follow blockbusters In the series, but in so, retains the laidback feel of an authentic early 1960's espionage flick. There is also more than a passing whiff of quaint about it amongst its siblings, this proves however to be a considerable strength. Much of the winning formula was established here, including ownership of the main role of Bond for Sean Connery, the diabolical villain, and the beautiful bond girl, who is played here by the iconic Ursula Andreas. Dr No still stands as one of the best. Ursula Andreass' s character in the Novel wore less clothing, but that would be nitpicking.

CONNERY'S FIRST OUTING AS BOND
For a film that was made in 1962, the years have been more than kind to this, the first of the long-running James Bond film series. At first,Sean Connery was not author Ian Fleming's idea of how Bond should be, but it turned out to be such a star-making role for the brawny Scotsman that Fleming soon changed his mind and accepted that Connery's presence was a major factor in the film's success.Viewed today, the film may not be the best of the Bond series but it still holds up as an exciting piece of entertainment. The action sequences are well done and the spirit - if not the entire atmosphere - of Fleming's novel is well captured. This new Blu-Ray edition looks amazing and the re-mixed soundtrack is unbelievably full-bodied. Just one word of warning. The Blu-Ray disc - for some reason - takes about 5 minutes to load. But it's well worth the wait.If you already have this film on regular DVD, you may wonder if it's worth investing in this new Blu-Ray edition. Believe me, it is.Highly recommended

Connery as Bond = the best!
James Bond, 1960s, Sean Connery. What else to say but any Bond film from the beginning to about 1971 (diamonds are forever) will always rock. I love 60's Bond films and always will.
