Mia Goth asbolutely shines in this movie about a young woman's descent into madness.Many people have claimed that if there wasn't such a snobbery around horror movies, she'd have been nominated for an Oscar. These people could have a point.

In 1918 Pearl finds herself trapped on her family's isolated farm looking after her ailing father and suffering under the rule of her overbearing mother. All the while Pearl dreams of a more glamourous life she has seen in the movies and when her one chance to escape and live her dream falls through, a darker side of Pearl emerges.Pearl is a prequel to Ti West's brutal horror, 'X' and it's difficult to say more than that without revealing more about the ending of that movie and it's most iconic character. What I really enjoyed about Pearl was the soft focus Hollywood style of filming from gentle classics of the 1950s and 60s that is adapted here to put the viewer at ease before we launch into Ti West's particular brand of horror violence.Mia Goth is the standout in this film, giving a performance that will stay with you for a long time, the rest of the cast do a decent enough job but it didn't quite reach the highs of 'X' in terms of horror or scares but maybe that is not the point. Peral is certainly a very different brand of horror and still works as a prequel to X, it';s just my personal taste that X was more the better horror movie.

Mia Goth does not disappoint!

The wait for this was absolutely agonising, but my god it was worth it. I absolutely adored every minute of this.So beautifully shot. All that natural light looks so good in UHD 4K and in this age of heavy colour grading you don’t see enough like this.The end credits. My god.Very little to actually say about this one, I just absolutely loved it.Please, please don’t make me wait so long for MaXXXine!

I believed this to be the wizard of oz meets American psycho and I wasn't disappointed however some scenes are grotesque and there's a few slow bits mid section which could have gone to improve the pace. I'd never watch it again but glad I've seen it and I like the female protagonist as she's sassy and dangerous which is rather cool for such an innocent looking person but some of the things she does are beyond revolting so beware and watch after your pizza, not with it x

In 1918, a young woman on the edge of madness dreams of becoming a huge Hollywood star and she'll do anything to get what she wants. Prequel to X with an excellent performance from Mia Goth returning as a much younger version of her character from X showing her origins. A tense and gripping horror with some fun homages to classic Hollywood and early cinema and a good supporting performance from David Corenswet with Pearl becoming a terrifying new horror villain.

Ich fand Pearl auf jeden Fall besser als X. Pearl's Rolle in X war ja eher klein aber mit diesem Prequel bekommt man einen anderen Zugang zu X.Da dies ein UK Import ist liegt der Film nur auf Englisch vor, was mich nicht stört, da ich gut Englisch spreche. Was mich umgehauen hat ist, das Pearl's Familie einen deutschen Hintergrund hat und das ihre Mutter, für einen englischsprachigen Film sehr viel Deutsch spricht. Dieses ist zwar nicht 100 prozentig akzentfrei, aber vom Satzbau absolut korrekt, was man ja bei weitem nicht in jeder englischsprachigen Produktion hat. Hier würde sich wirklich Mühe gegeben.Die Handlung ist sehr interessant und Mia Goth liefert eine hervorragende Darbietung ab.Jetzt heißt es nur abwarten bis Teil 3, auch bekannt als MaXXXine veröffentlicht wird und man sich das Gesamtbild ansehen kann.Fazit: Auf jeden Fall sehr lohnenswert trotz leichter Blutarmut für einen Horrorfilm.
