This is one serious shovel!
We have an English walnut at the back our yard and we have squirrels. And squirrels hide way more walnuts than their little pea brains can remember. Consequently, our perennial beds can get overrun with walnut seedlings. Walnuts seedlings grow very fast and have a super long taproot. By the time we notice a new sapling, the root is too deep to just pull out. Enter the sharpshooter. With this shovel, we can plunge the blade deep into the soil on a couple of sides without disturbing the shrubs and perennials around the walnut. Put a little lever action to it and then pull out the offending tree. It's bit heavy for me, the 115# weakling in the family, but my husband can handle it just fine and our son thinks it's awesome!

Monster
I do landscaping in a shore town and every second house has decorative dune grass. Sometimes I get calls to remove it and 99% of the time it is a miserable job. The roots are super dense and resilient and you can very easily break shovels on it without even making much progress in the process. A few years ago someone turned me onto an all metal spade for it and I've borrowed theirs a few times since. When I saw this I was all over it and I'm glad I saw it. It's an absolute beast and will definitely do the trick.I wish it was more of a standard spade shaped head but overall it will do the job. It says it's heat sharpened so I'll give it a shot as is and see how it cuts through but generally I'd put a fresh edge on the one I was borrowing and may have to do so with this (for dune grass specifically). As far as smaller roots this thing should eat them for breakfast. One thing this has over the one I've used is the rubber handle which is nice. It smelled like some kind of solvent or something upon opening but has dissipated since thankfully. If you even think you have a need for something this beefy you will be happy with it.

Heavy!
This will do a lot of the work for you if you can lift it! I underestimated it for sure. I will use it to dig posts. Solid tool!
