Birch wood? Smooth & fine-grained; Darkish color; a bit flexible.
I don't think these are Basswood/Poplar; the grain is much finer and the color is most definitely darker - I think they're Birch. The following might or might not matter to your project, depending upon what you're doing, so keep in mind what the specific project requires.The darker color does affect the end color of projects, even though I do like to glue light-colored paper to both sides of my pieces. These boards are very smooth - I do think they lost a bit of thickness during sanding, since they're a hair thinner than other 1/16" panels I've purchased. The fine grain and smoothness makes them less "splintery", so sawing is easier, although the smoothness can a bit less "grip" than do the Basswood boards. These are also more flexible than the Basswood panels I've previously bought.There did seem to be a good number for the price at the time I purchased these.

Exactly as described
This is exactly what I was expecting. There’s 16 sheets, each of which measure exactly 1/16 inch. It is sanded down very well and ready to use! I’m very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend.

Does not cut on the Cricut Maker
I purchased this pack to use with my Cricut Maker. Despite being sold as 1/16" balsawood, it appears to be balsa veneer glued together. My knife could not cut through the glue, rendering this product unusable. It was a waste of money for me, and unfortunately, I didn't discover this until I started my project and it was past the return window. I'm sure it might be fine for other craft uses for someone with a microsaw, but it is NOT usable for the Maker. Very disappointed! It was not disclosed that this is veneer glued together.

I will order again
I used this product to cut layered designs out with my brother scan-n-cut. They came out good. Some chipping on the edges.
