First Thousand Words in Portuguese (Usborne First Thousand Words)

Bought for my fiance to learn portuguese, easy to use, and seems good and fun for our future kids

This is a great book for either children or adults who are learning to speak Portuguese. The drawings are fun and make it interesting to learn. There are two big pluses: 1. The words are commonly used words so one isn’t bogged down with lots of words which will never be used; and, 2. the book is in European Portuguese and not Brazilian. It can certainly be used to learn Brazilian. It is very difficult to find books for learning European Portuguese. I use the book to reinforce my learned vocabulary. I read through it, looking for the words I already know and then giving thought to those I don’t. I works to reinforce already learned vocabulary and to stimulate the acquisition of new vocabulary. I highly recommend this book.

I use this for my 2 year old after the book with First Hundred Words was a great success with him. There are lots of words that are intended for older kids, but he loves the images so full of details and I love how there are lots of environments with images and their sets of words. Just a pity that the images have so many details that we would even want them to be a little bit bigger.Also the animals part for example had even more animals than a Bilingual book only of animals I bought for him. So it's a success! :-) Would recommend this book.

Lovely book and present

I love this book and so does my son who’s enjoyed it probably since he was about 12 months old. It’s so compact with all the useful words you need to develop a strong vocabulary, there are great pictures/themes and a huge variety too! The index also gives you the English and Portuguese words and even tells you how to pronounce the Portuguese words which is brilliant!It has a ‘find the hidden duck’ on each page too which makes it extra fun and engaging. We love this book and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to learn continental Portuguese.

This book is lovely. The pictures are amazingly cute and the words included in it are useful "everyday use" ones. The book also contains a link to the official Usborne page where you can listen how the words are pronounced by the native speaker, which is great when you don't have anyone to learn with.Some of the words can be confusing, though. I am learning with my Portuguese friend and he laughs at some of the words as they seem weird to him. From what I've heard there are some regional differences in Portugal, so perhaps that's the case.Overall, the book is really enjoyable and allows to memorise the words more quickly thanks to the pictures. Would definitely recommend.

I remember this book for English and French when I was a young child and now as an adult learning Portuguese I am relying on it again. Even without the nostalgia factor this book covers so much useful vocabulary arranged into useful sections you could easily use it on holiday by finding the closest diagram to your situation (from eating to being in hospital) & say the words by looking at the matching picture. Much more fun that looking at lists of words in English and their foreign translation.Learning in this way is much more likely to be successful because there are no English words to distract your attention. The diagrams are a perfectly clear alternative.Lastly, trying to find the duck on every double page spread is still great fun!

My kid loves to learn new words and find them on the picture.
