Decent pruning shears, could use some improvements
I was in need of some new pruning shears, so I decided to try these out. My first thoughts upon taking them out of the box is that they seem like they are made fairly well. They have a sliding lock to keep them closed when not in use. The top side of them (the section of the handle that also has the lock) has a rubberized/silicone grip/padding for comfort. The bottom side is just plastic(the red piece). The main body part (black) is metal.I tested them out on twigs/small branches from about 1/8 inch up to 3/4 inch (which is the max cutting diameter in the description). They cut through the smaller twigs fairly easily, but get tougher around 1/2 inc, and I needed to use both hands to cut through a branch around 3/4 inch in size. Despite this, they do make pretty clean cuts.I feel that my hands will probably tire out pretty quickly if trying to cut through many branches that are 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch. They should be quite useful for twigs/branches smaller that 1/2 inch though.I feel like these pruning shears could benefit from being a bit sharper and having a little more padding in the handle. So while I don't think I will be using them as much for branches between 1/2-3/4 inch, I do see them being very useful for things smaller than 1/2 inch.Overall, I would still recommend them if you aren't doing tons of pruning beyond 1/2 inch size. Anything less than that should be just fine.

Good value for the price for lighter pruning
The AlpineReach pruning shears are very light-weight and comfortable to use, especially for someone with smaller hands. The lock at the top takes a little getting used to, but its's not a big deal. I tried them out on a variety of pruning jobs when I first got them. They performed nicely with camellias, even up to 1/2" limbs; very well on leucodendrons, even larger stemmed ones; and small branches of a variety of bushes were easily clipped off. The only thing that caused them to grab a little was very woody thick (maybe 3/4 ") rose branches. The other problem that I can see is that it doesn't look like you can take it apart to sharpen it and it doesn't come with an extra blade and the ability to swap it out. But as one of the other reviewers said, if you're a heavy gardener your main problem is losing your pruning shears long before they lose their sharp edge. And at this price, you can easily replace them.

A bit too large for some hands
These pruning shears appear to be very well made. However, I think it will fit a man's hand better than a females as I have a hard time getting enough of a grip to make clean cuts. I did manage to trim back one of my shrubs but my hand was a bit uncomfortable because the spread is too large for my stubby (and old) fingers. But I do like the quality ... plus they look really nice.

Works Well
Trimmer works fairly well. We will have to see over time how well it holds up compared to other trimmers we have used especially the one with the lifetime guarantee.

Good backup
So, I have a wife who is a very good gardener and loves to be out working in the yard. Sadly, she can be a bit forgetful. She goes through hand clippers like crazy. I mean, she puts them down somewhere and we don’t find them for weeks, months, years. Even my lawnmower has located a pair or two. A good set of Felcos will run you sixty or seventy bucks. These are thirteen. Woot. Winner. She never uses them long enough to get dull.

Good, pruner, not the most comfortable handle
Generally good pruner, easy to lock and unlock, sharp blades, good cutting action. I find the handles a little uncomfortable, I wouldn't want to use them for an extended time.
