Get rich and die trying
This is very well written and has a good balance between looking at the characters and examining the political links with organized crime, and some of the social background. The drug lords are by turns cavalier and calculating and the way they are embedded in local community and history is interesting. As usual, they have a short life span and again, as usual, one is struck by the notion that there are no pockets on a shroud. However, since death stalks the Mexican badlands anyway, one might as well get filthy rich before it finds you - if you have the ruthlessness to do so.An influential book that covers the system of corruption between narcos and representatives of the state pretty much as well as books that have come since.

drug lord.....it could only happen in Mexico
excellent read....amazing how a government can control the distribution of drugs an the drugs traffickers are just the pawns played out in serious business.Poppa gets you interested straight away by writing the book aimed mainly at Pablo Acosta & his associates rather than go straight to the point of the Mexican authorities being responsible for allowing the illegal trade of drugs in the first place.

Great Read , never became dull .
Awesome read, great facts to back up the writer about Acosta .The book did not overwhelm you with a long story of his past , or long drawn out dull story which kills the read .Also a good read from a “ make your mind up “ wether you agree with Acosta’s way of life . Definitely recommend

Great research!
not many writers achieve to have a perspective from the inside of a criminal organization as Poppa did. this is a very well researched story that one can enjoy and learn about the cartels.

License to Deal
If you want to understand what is currently going on with the drug cartels on the U.S. Mexican border, read this book.Pablo Acosta is a fascinating character and the book is hard to put down. It describes his personal life, how he got into the business, how the business operated, and how he got out of the business... or was removed from the business, actually more like a hostile takeover.Although it focuses on a drug kingpin in a small Mexican border town, the author does a great job of showing how the Mexican government, judicial police and military are all involved in the top to bottom distribution of weed, cocaine and heroin.Excellent, well written book.

Excellent read
This was a very interesting book. It was well written and frankly described some incredible true events. The Mexican drug trade is examined from the inside from the earliest days up to the present. The complicity of the Mexican police, Army and politicians up to AND INCLUDING the president is frightening. Buy this book. It is as exciting as any fictional thriller, but it's all true.
