Eve of Snows: Sundering the Gods Book One

So far this book is proving to be highly imaginative and consistently well written. Characters are efficiently imbued with rich personalities, places are rendered with a blend of stark realism and underlying power. The magic, and the politics of that magic, clearly come from an author who has invested extensive energy in defining its logic. The social tensions that are emerging from the political/religious magical divisions in this story complicate relations from the intimate family level to a macro societal scope. The pacing of the story (up to the point I've reached) is pleasantly quick, though I expect I'll be re-reading some sections, particularly the short segments of poetry/song/verse the author uses to introduce each chapter, as I get further into the story and have a better perspective on the big picture. I'll add to this review as I progress through this book. Enjoying it a lot so far.
