Stillman & BirnAlpha Sketchbook 5.5 x 8.5in Hardbound 150gsm - White Vellum

This is the first Stillman & Bern sketchbook I've tried. I was curious after reading all the rave reviews. Well, it's not quite the greatest thing since sliced bread but it is a very good sketchbook. It doesn't lie as flat as I was led to believe and it does buckle slightly with watercolour which is why I've given it 4 and not 5 stars but it's a very good quality product and I'll definitely try the others with the heavier paper.

Simply the best sketchbook around. The build quality is superb. The paper is robust and will take more than the recommended 'light wash' with minimal buckling. It is much more stable than many other papers of similar weight. Suitable for pencil, pen and watercolour work, I just love it. The S&B range include a variety of weights colours and surfaces but I haven't felt the need to go further than the Alpha for my journaling needs. Also the customer care is excellent.

Just about the perfect size for a portable folio. The paper takes watercolour very well and croma pens don't seep through. Great for pencil work and withstands several passes with an electric rubber with no surface damage. All told it's a good purchase. Only thing missing is an elastic place marketing strap.

this is a great sketchbook, I've used ink and watercolours in it, no ink bleeding through the page, best sketchbook I've ever used.
