The Anxious Brain: The Neurobiological Basis of Anxiety Disorders and How to Effectively Treat Them

Highly Valuable
Outstanding. This book is quite technical. Takes some time to read for a non-medical mental health practitioner like me (I'm an LCSW) but so very useful. It has helped me understand what is happening inside my clients' brains, why they have such difficult y overriding their obsessive worry. and how to select and introduce better more targeted interventions. I am still reading this book, taking and reviewing notes, re-reading sections and expect I will be for some time. I sure wish I could get CEU's for all the time involved and the value this adds to my practice.

Helpful and Informative. A must own.
Extremely informative and helpful book for those interested in the the neuroanatomical and physiological underpinnings of anxiety disorders. I think the author did a fantastic job organizing the information and setting a good foundation for clinicians unfamiliar with neurology and lacking expertise on the nervous system. For those experiencing anxiety disorders, this book serves as an excellent psychoeducational tool to augment therapy and/or medication. I find most anxiety management books to be overly "self-helpy". This book is NOT that kind of book. It's written for clinicians but helpful to those with the disorder who need to know WHY they're employing constant cognitive behavioral techniques/medication and what exactly it's doing to their brains.

A fantastic, comprehensive, clinical view of anxiety
As someone who has suffered from anxiety/panic attacks/phobias for most of my life, I believe that this book offers one of the best and most comprehensive explanations of what happens chemically and emotionally to those who suffer from GAD or similar disorders. I was given this book by my therapist to help me understand my disorder better and it has done more to inform me than ten years of therapy ever did.Be warned, however, that this book frequently uses clinical terminology and references. If you took Psych 101, you should be able to understand most of them, but use of Google may be necessary for others.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST FOR THOSE WITH ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND RELATED DIAGNOSIS AND THOSE WHO TREAT THEM
Having been diagnosed with anxiety, fear and depression I finally found a book that explained the symptoms, the brain's function in these diagnosis and where a patient should go for help. The book is understandable reading with excellent diagrams and illustrations and complete with drugs and therapies used to treat symptoms. FINALLY a book that explains the relationships between the brain and anxiety, and related problems. I've been waiting for years for this book!

best informational source
This book is so thorough. It offers a clear understanding of what goes wrong in the anxious brain. If you struggles through Biology class this one might not be for you, but if you really want to understand the chemical problems that are at work in anxiety it is perfect. So, far this one is the best money I have spent. For a more self help style and less technical- try The Worry Cure.

Fascinating Stuff!
I read this from cover to cover in just a few days. Having lived with anxiety most of my adult life I'm always interested to learn more about the mechanisms behind chronic anxiety. This is heavy in science, but easy to digest at the same time. Well worth the read if you're looking to understand your brain and your behavior a little more.
