Old book but still contains valid information
I bought this book, as I enjoyed the Soldering/Brazing book in the same series. The thing to remember about these books are, that they have been around for quite some time. This has to be taken into account with the technology being described. If you want to learn how to use the latest techniques and features on the latest models of Tig and Mig (and indeed, possibly Arc) welders - it is probably not going to be in here (well unless that feature has been around since the 80s).However, if you want a basic but comprehensive guide to the basic methods of welding in each technology, this is a very good book. It is also good if you want to learn less trendy welding techniques like Oxy-Acetylene, as these are being rare in teaching institutions but are still valid options in some scenarios. So like the Soldering/Brazing book, this is definitely worth adding to your workshop library.

Vause teaches welding
Packed full of useful easy to understand hands-on information presented with an economy of words.Covers Oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, Brazing, Stick, TIG, MIG, and most important of all: safety. All this with diagrams, tables, pictures packed into less than 100 pages.Got me (a retired guy who had never touched an electrode), making decent stick welds in about 10 hours of part time practice, which is no mean feat.I read ordered two other books on the subject, both much thicker and one with lots of colour photos; they offered me nothing more after reading Vause's book.P.S: Do carefully read the chapter on Safety: Unsafe welding can cause loss of vision, serious injury, cancer, even sudden death.
