Absolutely essential emergency gear for every vehicle
I was very pleased last year with my purchase of the original version of these traction mats. They work terrific in all kinds of slippery situations - not just slush and snow.I keep a set in my 2wd mini RV for when I am out in the desert and encounter loose sand and gravel and worst of all: damp/wet mud in the muddle of a dry lake bed playa (I'm talking Burning Man here, folks). It's easy to go sideways out there. But I wanted to get a set for my 4wd truck. I had been carrying a set of rigid "traction boards", but I found their very rigidity was detrimental getting them in position in some cases and unless you're very careful, these rigid boards BREAK! These traction mats can't break because of their designed in flexibility. They're very easy to get into positionNow they improved an already great product by adding studs for when you're caught by hard slick ice. Just be sure the studs face the ice and not your tires and you'll be unstuck faster than you can call a tow truck. One service call will cost more than the pair of these mats. The traction bars themselves have been beefed up as well. The earlier version came with two little velcro type covers- this newer model has one zippered bag for both so you can't accidentally lose one mat. My purchase also came with a nice pair of utility gloves (I was expecting cheapie disposable junk).I should also mention that last year, the customer service was immediate when I contacted the seller about a minor issue.I recommend a set in every car, unless you like waiting and paying for the tow truck.

Worked great!
I used it in an offroad recovery class, to try it out. It worked perfectly for vehicle stuck in the mud. I did tie a line to it, so I could pull it out of the mud & water when done. I was disappointed in the storage bag. It fell apart after the first use. I really like the tracks!

nice
So these are heavy seems to be good quality. I have not had to get this out of the box yet. I can say this is a good thing.

Got my truck unstuck
It took a couple of tries but they helped me get my truck out of snow and mud. Good product!

Came apart first time.
Used them for the first time yesterday to help get a mid 70s station wagon with highway tires unstuck from soft dirt. They didn't work and in the picture you can see the damage done to one of them. The other one wasn't damaged but didn't grip the tire either. If you notice the cable holding them together was pulled apart. Car had a posi rear end and both tires would just spin. I was really hoping these would do the job but it looks like I will be going to boards. I did watch a few videos about different recovery treads and although it wasn't this brand they got a good review in sand so we went with these.

Good at adding traction
I haven't used it on snow but for mud I found it best to lay the track down first if it looks bad. Hard to explain but I found it better as prevention rather than to be used when once stuck.

Not as wide as pictures show
Just received these and haven't used them. They are not as wide as the pictures represent. They are 10 5/8" wide which matches the measurements advertised, but the pictures with tires on them must have been photoshopped, or the tires on these vehicles are only 3-4" wide.

Be prepared for the unexpected
Since I just received the recovery tracks I can't rate the product thoroughly. The tracks are very sturdy and appear well constructed. Everything fits easily into the sturdy carrying case. The case fits well in my already stuffed cubby in the floor of the suv cargo area. My main reason for purchasing this product was in case of an unforseen situation. I belong to a rock club that goes to what some may think impassable areas. Better prepared than not.

Not really useful
I found this tracks not that useful. They do slide. I guess anchoring to the soil could be an option
