the instructions are really bad. But i soon figured it out
Ok sure, the instructions are really bad. But i soon figured it out, and it DOES WORK GREAT. Allow me to share some tips for anyone getting nowhere fast:MY INTENDED USE: Extend home wi-fi outside, through a thick walled, stone cottage. For use in an outside office (+/-15m away) and into a forest area beyond (+70m away).STEPS TO SUCCESS:- Don't plug the device directly into your PC/Laptop using a LAN cable to access the login page, as you'd usually do with a wireless router, it doesn't work like that!- The PoE unit has two outputs: LAN port (send this to a free LAN port on your ROUTER) & PoE port (send this to the device; it also powers the device).- Now you can access the 192.168.16.1 simply through your existing wi-fi signal. It's as simple as that!- Assign a static IP address IF necessary so it's within the router's range: e.g. 192.168.xx.yy, where xx is the same as your router, and yy can be anything for 0-255. Note: You MIGHT need to reboot things to affect changes after that.- Windows 8 IS TOTALLY supported. ;-)WHERE I WENT WRONG (with hindsight):I figured, badly, if I could set the device up to access the router like a wi-fi extender (i.e. CPE mode) then I would save myself lots of trouble running cable from the router to the outside wall. So I tried to do this and sort of got it working, but I lost half the signal strength straight away from the stone walls. By the time the signal reached the office (not far away) the signal was useless. Conclusion: For my needs, using the default AP mode with a lengthy LAN cable to the outside wall, I got a healthy, full strength signal from the outset. THAT made all the difference for me, as it easily penetrates a wooden shed/office (100% strength), and extends a good 50m-60m into the wooded area beyond without losing bandwidth (even with a few small trees blocking the line of sight). Trying to use it as a wi-fi extender in CPE mode proved to be a complete waste of time.

Ok to access when you know how.
Accessing the set-up menu on iPad is a chore and a half, until you find out how. Ive set it up as an access point so it’s connected by Ethernet from my router. The range easily covers my large garden but it’s soooo slow! Even my bird box cameras struggle with the slow speed. Too late to return it so I’m discarding it (bin) and ordering something better. What a waste of money.

Good, but don't expect to get what the main pic looks like.
First of all the product delivered looks nothing like the one in the main picture (which is what I expected to receive), nor does it look like the other unit that's in the photos although it has more resemblance to this (for what it really looks like see photos I've attached ..... but I apologise for the temporary mounting using sellotape whilst I was testing the unit).Second .... Ignore any instructions in the box, they'll just confuse the hell out of you. There's a link to a PDF document on the side of the box that is of better help although still not perfect. Instructions should be included for Windows 10 these days but they're not)<<EDIT>> ….. I have written some Windows 10 instructions but I can't attach the document so have made a picture of each page. There's 12 pages but it's not daunting, it's just because I've gone through every last step you need to do and included screenshots so it's easier for less techie people to follow.Ignoring the fact it doesn't look like the unit I thought I was buying, and the fact the instructions aren't brilliant, the unit does seem to be performing as it should so far; the range is good and it hasn't suffered and drop outs.

Great bit of kit. Plug and play.
I purchased this for a friend who has a farm and needed to boost her Wifi signal from the farmhouse to an area about 60-70 metres away across a road in her farmyard where she wanted to place WiFi cameras in 5 calving bays.I trialed it at home simply plugging it power-over-Ethernet into a power socket, and running the cat5 cable from the device into my router. It worked pretty much straight out of the box and created a new second SSID. I then connected to it, went for a walk and the signal was fine for watching YouTube videos up to about 85metres. Really impressed. I then played around with the various modes as you can do many things which this thing, but I found the most reliable way was to simply plug and play, which seemed to work absolutely brilliantly, rather than go through the setup on any of the particular modes.I did give it a password, and renamed the SSID to the name of the farm, then set it up at my friends and it worked a treat. Not sure about longevity but it’s been up a month or so now and still working nicely.

Received different product. Instructions terrible. Zero tech support. Unreliable
Pros: It is neat and unobtrusive, with internal aerials. Some customers have offered some helpful advice to make the best of this bad product, and seem to have made it work. I have not.Cons:Instructions do not match product received. Very poor grammar, Confusing graphics and LED indicators. Confusing configuration - even for a tech engineer. No tech support contact details. Seller does not respond to multiple requests for help. Does not work after reset.Unreliable and slow. Could not get more than 2Mbps upload speed. In my experience it is definitely not worth the hassle. Spend a bit more with a seller who deserves your custom!
