ModelcraftPSS1060 3-in-1 Hot Wire Cutter/Knife and Stencil Burner Tool - Blue/Silver

I got this product to make model terrain for Dungeons and Dragons and with so many much more expensive products on the market I was unsure what to expect but I have been pleasantly surprised.+ Pros ++ Very clean cuts - At first I just used it to make rock walls and with almost zero effort you can make almost perfect natural looking rock faces but after a while I moved to dungeon walls and pillars and was astounded by how smooth and clean the cut was even for a novice+ Very fast - even with very thick material I was able to move at some speed with almost zero mess+ Very fast to heat up - 5 to 10 seconds tops and it is ready to cut from cold+ Lightweight, I spent nearly 3 hours using it the first time and never noticed any weight issues, its also well balanced making it easy to use at odd angles+ Built in stand - reasonably sturdy little stand that allows to you safety put the product down on a table without fear of burning anything+ Spare wires - I have yet to break a wire but was very pleased to see two extra wires had been included for the main cutting attachment- Cons -- Battery compartment is a little fiddly - since the compartment takes 4 AA batteries with no divider in place and the cap seals so tightly it can be a bit of a fiddle to get the batteries in - even so I had it done in only a few minutesAll in all I would recommend this to any model makers who want to work with polystyrene and want a quick effective tool and leave little or no mess

Amended: it works fine on polystyrene, but is completely useless against anything more dense. it seems to chew through batteries very quickly and gunks up which stops it working until you clean it off. its ok, but I'm still not massively impressed for the price of the item.Original: for £30, i am really annoyed at this terrible product. i bought it to create scenery out of foam and found that the tool doesn't even get hot enough to cut through it. so basically, it doesn't perform it's one and only function. what an outstanding waste of money!do yourself a favour and buy one with a mains plug.

A very good tool and one which we can not get here in France. Powers through polystyrene and Styrofoam like a knife. It's good that it's not mains powered as it is more portable. Only minor problem I have is that it does not have a larger bow cutter. Had to use the knife on larger pieces.

Does no heat up to a temperature that will cut 1 inch foam. Battery compartment is difficult to close even without the batteries. Complete rubbish; save your money. I've dumped this. Spend a bit more money and get a mains supply unit, I have and the new unit works. Woodlands Scenics ST14402.

This is an extremely useful hot wire cutter at a very economic price. It is ergonomically sound and easy to use. Battery power means no trailing cables to get in the way but it also means it is best to have the spare batteries on 'stand by' in case the ones in use run out. It is annoying to be caught with the wire imbedded in the plastic being cut and no heat. The wide 'prongs' mean versatility in cutting and make it easier to get at some awkward angles. The different cutting tools are also useful and easily swopped in and out. However, the attachment of the wires can be problematic. When using the wires provided it is wise to take a couple of turns around the fastening otherwise they can come out and disconnect too easily. Also. too much tension on the wire to produce a firm straight cutting 'edge' can cause the prongs to come loose, so be careful. These minor criticisms aside, this is a good piece of kit for modellers and I would recommend it.

Need to use slowly do not rush or wire will break. Mark item with lines as there is a tendency not to cut straight.

The build quality of this product is so bad that I am angry to have paid £30 for it. The battery enclosure needs forcing on or it wont work, the on switch is flimsy and hard to activate, the cutter is extremely slow and doesn't get hot enough to cut through anything other than simple polystyrene.I am shocked that a product of such low quality is being sold for this price. I wouldn't have even paid £15 if I knew how bad it would be.

Perfect for DIY

Oggetto perfetto da tutti i punti di vista. Le batterie durano parecchio, si scalda subito, fa un taglio pulito e preciso tanto di più quanto è ferma la mano che lo usa. Peccato non averlo comprato prima.Lo straconsiglio!

Buen cortador de foam con varios tipos de corte. Lo único malo es el consuno de pilas que es elevado y se necesita cambiar frecuentemente, también se ha de dejar descansar para evitar que se caliente demasiado.

simple d'utilisation et très pratique , je l'utilise pour la création de décors de crèche pour santons , le résultat est super

Ich hatte gehofft, damit Kappa Platten sauber schneiden zu können aber das hat gar nicht funktioniert. Ansonsten ist die Konstruktion auch nicht sehr hochwertig, das Plastikgehäuse macht einen sehr unstabilen Eindruck. Ging leider zurück.

Horrible, no sirve para nada y sin ser uno el resto de piezas no funcionan, un timo.
